Default What should i do for tires?

Hello, well i jsut got my 99 TA, read sig. The tires o nthe 18's are bout shot and the stock tires are gone. I def want a set of drag radials. I was thinking jsut getting some nice meaty street tires o nthe back of my 18s (275s or 285s or what?), and than put some stock tires back o nthe front of the stock rims and get some 285 or 305 drag radials. I will drive the 18s for everyday use so i dont really want drags o nthem but something meatier looking and will hook up better than my 245/40s, ehhh. What do you think i should do? Thanks

Yeah Nitto and BFGoodrich make drag radials in 18's. I'm running a 305/35/18 Nitto drag.

Superman09-What width are your rims?

Yes, we need to know how wide they are. If theyre only 8" wire wheels, youre options are severely limited. Nitto has 18/305/35s, but theyre better than 250 a pop.

Yea uhhhh Houston... we have a problem.... 18 x 8s is what it looks like to me. They came with the car so im not 100% sure but with the ruler, they look like 8s, and my tires are 245/40/18s and these rims and tires are that size all the way around. What tires (not DR's) should i get for the 18s? and size for the rear and front? Also what should i do for DRs for my stockers? Thanks

Probably want to stick with the same size tire as you already have. Don't think you can go much bigger because of the size of your rim.

What brand and model wheels are they? that will help narrow it down. And yes, with 8" i wouldnt go any wiser than 245 or 255.

If I were you, I'd just stick a set of cheap street tires on there and get some DR's for the stockers. Which is what it sounds like you are gonna do. Here are my choices for the 18's from a quick search on tirerack:
Sumitomo HTRZ II $113

Dunlop FM901 $114

Kumho Ecsta MX $138

if you want a longer lasting "All season" type tire I'd go w/ one of these:

Continental ContiExtremeContact $138

Avon Tech A550 $141

Continental ContiProContact $150

Pirelli Pzero Nero $154

Yea i kind of want something stickier and wider for my 18s, but looks like icant go too much bigger. Well ill figure soemthing out. Think i should get some 305 nitto 555r's for my stocks or what? I want real sticky for a good launch but nothing to break the rear end f thats even possible considering i am just a little more powerful than stock but not much. Thanks

Your "stocks" meaning stock 17x9 wheels? Nitto 315/35/17s wont fit on them properly. Some people do it anyway, but they bulge. Chances are that you have less of a ontact patch because of the bulge, but the tires weigh more with less grip and the dangers of losing a bead. Id stick with 275 nittos on your 17x9s or 245 on your 18s.

So i kinda have the same problem, i'm looking for some new tires to hook pretty good for the track but don't have a 12 bolt and not sure what size the stock rims are. They are the stock 10 spoke SS rims. Any suggestions?

Actually i think i have the 16" stockers, not the WS6 17's. How about Nitto 285/45/16? Do they make that. Any jsut stick with 245s or 255s for my 18s? . Well anyway. any more input on the 18s tire situation kind and size and size and type of DR's for my stockers? Thanks. Cant wait to get to the track!

Go to tirerack.com or discounttiredirect.com. Stick with 245/40/18's for your 18" rims and do a search for what Nitto makes in a 16" for your stock rims.

If you have 16x8 stockers, you can still only fit a 245 tire on there. the 8" width is the limiting factor.

Ok thanks. I am thinkign about some 245/40/18 BFG g-force T/A KDWs? Sound good. And am also thinking about some 255/50/16 Nitto 555r's for the stockers. I think they are wider than 8 but not sure.
