Default what is this noise

when I release the clutch when the car is out of gear I can hear a faint rattling sound. But when I push it back in it stops rattling. Any Idea what it is?

My 94 M6 also rattles. You can especially hear it if you go through a drive-in window, the rattling noise bounces off the wall. It also only rattles with the car in nuetral and the clutch out. I was told that it was the clutch disc making the noise. The noise seemed to go away when I put a new clutch in, but it came back. You may want to search on Camaroz28.com, they cover the LT1 cars better.

my T56 does the exact same thing and so does my buddies GTO, so I'm guessin its normal, but what ever, if it breaks, then I just have my excuse to get my viper spec T56! but in all seriousness, I would like to know what is causing the sound too.

I believe that the rattle you are hearing ( my car does it too) is the input shaft. Something about loose tolerances because of the amount of torque the Ls1 engine produces so the imput shaft doesn't snap .

It's the cluster gear and input shaft rattling. Totally normal and nothing to worry about.

Try using "Search" over at CamaroZ28.com. It comes up with a lot of hits when you search "Clutch Rattle." They agree with what most people said here that it's the tranny rattling and that it's normal.
