Holy **** that sucks! I don't live in Illinois but I'm in the state enough. I guess a lot of cars are gonna be registered elsewhere!

It would be nice to try and nip it in the butt before it gets that far.

You can thank the ricers for that. Never would have been an issue if there weren't fart cans on every other civic on the road these days.

Anyway, I don't think they'll be able to enforce this one very well. So many catbacks for our cars *look* stock, they'd only be able to tell if it was super loud or something. Anyway, some of our cars came with what is in essence an 'aftermarket' system; like the Firehawk/SS dual/dual SLP system and the older SS SLP 2OTL system.

So what defines 'aftermarket'? Probably a 5" exhaust tip on a 1.8L import, I'd guess.

His full name is Senator James F. Clayborne, Jr.

Even still,

For the sake of the hobby, send an e-mail to the above addy and tell him you oppose H.B. 2221. It only takes a minute to send it. It can only help.

They probably won't be able to do much to most people, many 'catbacks' are pretty close to stock configuration and probably would go unnoticed. But we need to try and stop as many new laws that are aganist our hobby as possibile.

Good news is, since it just barely passed in the house, maybe it won't make it in the senate.

They are the people that got fired at McDonalds cuz they were too stupid to remember if you want fries with that... I'm not too worried about it

If this new bill happens to pass, Governor Jagoff-Blojobovich should buy me a "stock" catback then. Considering it's been LEGAL from the day I purchased it 'till now! And they just want to change the law like that without any type of warning? What a bunch of pussies!

Probably, they would have a hard time enforcing it on cars built before the law takes effect, especially if you have a dated receipt.

The law is so vague, "clearly modified to increase the sound....., based on visual inspection". How does that even make sense? How in the hell does something LOOK loud? Actually trying to enforce that would be a clusterfuck. How do you train people to look for aftermarket exhaust when many of them look like they *could* be stock, and really aren't loud enough to be "clearly" modified unless at WOT. Will they be doing 6000rpm clutch dumps in the testing station to evaluate exhaust volume?

Lots of factory cars come with pretty loud systems these days. Like the '04 GTO.....those things sound like they came with an aftermarket system. The new Bonneville GXP is surprising loud as well.....

I think you'd have to have a pretty wild setup for them to even take notice. Missing tail pipes (dumps), 5" fart cans, or stupid loud exhaust you can hear from blocks away even at low rpm cruise would all probably set off a flag.

Im hoping it wont pass. But if it does, I just need to get my LT's installed quickly. just so that i can have that receipt before it passes. Well its not like the stupid employees there would know when it passed anyway.
