Default two 2000 SS's, first race first loss

just got my tags thursday for my 2000 camaro ss 15,000 miles a4/3.23 only mods are a slp lid. i raced another 00 SS that was a 6 speed lid free ram air and slp loudmouth. he didnt wana go from a dig so we went from a 35 mph roll, he told me to get the jump so with him about 5 feet behind my rear bumper i nailed it , so does he. well everything is goin fine and dandy for me until like 70 when my 1 and and a half car lead stArts to shrink a lil and by high 90mph intead of just hanging at around the *** of my car he just pulls by me like im in park. id say he started to pull hard around 80mph and by 90 he was gone and out a car or two one me at least and seemed to be inching ahead. now this kid can drive and ive heard from a few people that he has ran 12.80 @ 112mph. i do know for a fact he has had a shop do the mods he has bc i ran into the owners who after the race remarked yeh hes had that car up the garage thats why u lost(this was about 30 min later when we went back to the hangout spot. is it normal for those amount of mods he has to kill me so bad? i was only expecting to loose by a half car or so with a jump. im very frustrated bc this is bring back memories of how my 97 ws.6 would loose to ls1's.

That sounds about right to me ? He should be putting down about 10-15 rwhp more than you from his Loudmouth + about 10 more because he's an M6 + even if you guys had even hp he should still win from a roll because of the M6's better tranny ratio's. I've raced a couple of stock A4 cars with my M6 from a roll and I always crept away at a decent rate Time for some headers and a cam

U RACED FROM A 35 MPH ROLL!!!!!!!!! That is the WORST speed for a stock automatic!!!!!!!!! Remeber under 30mph or above 50mph. That is when u get the best downshifts!!!! Good races by the way.

I really don't understand why people say this, if i nail it at 35 my car downshifts to like 3500 and hauls.

you just wanna get into the highest rpm's you can from the start so the other guy doesnt jump out in front of your *** and get all cocky...i agree with matt-ss

I can't recall the mph now since it's been several years since owning my A4 LS1, but I believe 30mph is the dead spot on a stock converter. The 4L60E doesn't downshift into 1st. It stays in 2nd and your screwed since you're at the bottom of the rpm band. The gearing is all wrong at that point and there's no power/torque to pull you out of it.

That is why I intentionally used to find A4 LS1's and slow down to a 30mph roll or so as opposed to a 50 roll.

sounds like you need a h/c and a nice stall and maybe a little spray or gears or something for good measure

That sounds about right. I knew a guy (Adam) who had a Silver 02 SS, A4 and against my A4 I beat him by 1 car on a regular basis. We were both stock and had the cars only a few months. He put SLP CAI, lid and MAF and with just the air mods he beat me by a car and I beat him with R/T by at least a car every time. He would just pull harder the faster we went.

Yeah...exactly. Put it in first at around 60mph. That should get the rpms up.

Well guys, I think it also depends on what gears hes running. On my A4 LS1 TA, my car kicks down to first up to 40 mph. I believe that may be because I have 2.73 gears though.
