I decided to go with the Walbro 255 instead of the Racetronix because of cash issues. Does anybody see an issue with this?

Now my big question....

I want to drop the tank to do the install so I don't have to cut my car panel......or is it going to be such a huge PITA that I should say screw it and cut a panel out?

I like to keep my cars clean, and that panel would bother me, even though its covered and nobody could see it....

how do you guys reattach it? weld it back? what about gas fumes?

No it is not a big deal at all you do not want to go hacking up your car.

Support the car and let the rear drop down. Unbolt the filler neck and the gas lines along with the 2 bolts holding the tank. I had a loudmouth and i was able to drop the tank with out taking the exhaust off. You can get it out in about 20 min.

where do you recommend i put my jack stands then? where does the filler neck unbolt? I have a Borla, hopefully i don't have to remove my exhaust.


I have heard some complaints about the Walbro 255 compared to the Racetronix because you have to modify the fuel canister...what problems if any does this present

Good move drop the tank, not that bad. I put my jack stands just forward of the diff. You will need to be able to raise the rh side of the diff a bit to get the drag ling bolt out for the panhard bar. At least I did, it would interfer with the spring. As for the filler neck it is held in by one bolt. You will need to remove the wheel well sheild to get acess to it not a big deal. As for you exhaust I did not have to remove it I was able to just unbolt the hangars and let it rest on the ground. I would deffently clean out the tank when you get it down. Just good insurance when you install the new pump, install a new filter as well.

Well when you get to the pump install you are going to have to cut you fuel bucket and make some mods to get the pump to fit and work as needed. Vs the racetronix plug and play. I was going to go with the wallbro but did not care for all the mods that need to be done, and you no longer have the fill function for the bucket. I have heard that now you will have to worry about runing your tank low on fuel due to the pump no longer covered in fuel when running low. And have a chance of cavitation on hard accells or turns with a low level as well. On top of that there is a chance of pump running hot due to not covered in fuel from being in the bucket. I am sure others can supply info if they have had problems with this. This is just what I have heard and read.

Well you just have to be cautious on how low you let your fuel level get. I did not want to spend the money either but after starting the wallbro install and then seeing what had to be done I went to the racetronix. I am glad I spent the extra $$. Works great and was a easy straight install, plug and play.

I am sure someone else can chime in a give you some feedback as well, this is jusy my thoughts, and dealings.

Yeah the Racetronix would be nice buy i'm short on cash for this stuff and I get a Walbro discount.

Why do you have to drill the holes? to fit the pump in? is it possible to cut the canister in the middle, (in half) and then attach it back together...the it would be just like the stocker?

right, but will I still have to worry about low fuel and turning and stuff?

what I'm saying is if I can open the canister, install it, and close it back up...there should be no issues with corner and low fuel etc.

unless there is a reason for the holes other than to instal the pump

Without the venturi function there is no way for the bucket to fill. The bucket will only equalize to the tank level. The single equalizing checkvalve in the bottom of the bucket does not flow enough to keep the bucket from running dry so you have to cut a hole in the bottom of the bucket to help it along. Once you do this there is no going back to the factory setup unless you buy a new module for big $.

well I can get the walbro 255 for a quarter of the price of the racetronix kit....just makes sense to me i guess

what fuel levels should I not go below?

Its not a big deal to put in the standard walbro. As stated drill out the venturi/check valve, widen the hole for the pump inlet. And finally lock the fuel sender and pump in the fully extended position. This will keep full pump pickup at the very bottom of the tank. As with the stock fuel pump setup never drive with the tank less than 1/4 full or you will cavitate the pump.

Considering what money you have probably pumped into your car does it make sense to go frugal on your fuel pump system which is the next most important thing to your oiling system when it comes to the life of your motor? How much more would you be willing to spend to maintain your factory fuel system functionality and that added bit of safety margin?

I personally rather save almost $200 and keep at least 1/4 tank of gas than to buy the Racetronix kit I guess. It makes more sense to me. I'm still not sold yet.
