cam selection for GTO

cam selection for GTO
I have a 04 GTO M6 and want to put a cam in it. It isn't driven every day because I have a company pickup. Current mods are CAI and Kooks 1 7/8" headers w/cats. comming mods will be a ASP pulley, HP tuners, and maybe a ported TB. I was thinking about the F13 on a 114. It seems to make good low end TQ which I want, but also alot of HP, I will probably do a set of AFR heads down the road and want a cam that will work well with them. Any suggestions?

I'd say you aren't worried about losing low end with those 1 7/8 headers on a basically stock car. Anyway, I'd say G5X3 or a FMS cam (not sure which one, I just started looking at them but they look great). I'd also consider a FAST 90 to throw on top of it, especially if you're looking at heads in the near future.
It does seem that some GTO guys are worried that the big cams aren't good for the car since the GTO weighs a bit more than the fbody. I say bleh to that because the bigger cams are still making a ton of power down low so you'll still get moving and really scream up top as well.

I would like to see some solid 12 sec runs on street tires. Around 400 rwhp would be nice as well. I really don't do alot of driving below 2000 rpm. from what I read on this forum the F13 make very good HP and TQ. I like the way it sounds as well.

I have the FM13 on a 112+4*, Allen recommended it to retain some of the lowend trq needed to move a heavier car like the GTO. I love this cam and I'm making good power considering my mods. There is a sound clip of my car on LS1sounds if you want to hear it.

Car is tuned. Drivability was fine untuned, had to help the idle along sometimes but no big deal. I didn't dyno my car between all my mods, I did everything at once. Most '04 GTO's are dynoing at about +/-300whp +/-310trq stock, check LS1gto.com for specifics. Im running the stock airbox, pulley, TB, and Cat-back, so for LT's, Intake arm, and a cam I think i'm doing alright. The GTO's IRS might suck up a few ponies aswell, compared to F-bodies.

my car stock made 258hp and 288 tq? on a mustang dyno which are usually about 10% low. I looks like you gained about 75-85 hp and 40-50 tq from just a cam, headers and maf pipe. those are awsome gains fo around 2 grand
