Default Is my car running to lean??

Today i put a K&N filter in the SLP lid and took the MAF screen out. I never scanned it on this hot of a day either it's about 75-80*. But i used my LS1m off my grand prix an scanned the car. Everything looks pretty good no KR the LFT's are 0 but the O2 is only 805. Then at the top of first i got 1.5* of knock as it shifts to 2nd it goes away till about 5300rpm i get 3.5* of knock. The highest the O2 level gets is 865 that's with the LFT at +9.4 at the top of 2nd around 5700rpm. If it's running to lean could i get an AFC to correct it? I thought the O2 level should be around 880-900.

they should be higher than that and your fuel trims should be 0 and you should have no kr, you are running lean. could have something to do with the MAF, is it a stock one?

Yeah it's a stock MAF but nothing seems to be wrong with it. Maybe i'll try one of those AFC's then.

maybe descreening threw the reading off and is making it lean now?

I thought about that too, but it would throw the reading off that much?

The stock O2 sensor really aren't a good indicator of a/f ratio.

They are a 'narrow-band' O2 sensor and the further out of the 'narrow-band' they go, the less accurate they are.

FWIW, descreening an MAF can lean the car out a bit. Throw some good gas in the car and see if the KR goes away. If it does then most likley your car could use a tweak.

fwiw my stock o2's read anywhere from 860-920 with a rock solid w/b verified 11.7:1 a/f in my gtp dont use your o2's for telling if your lean or by how much....EVER

Well i figured it out the car has 90,000 miles on it, and it's obvious nothing had ever been cleaned. So i took the MAF off an cleaned the inside of it put the screen back in and everything is fine now it's even hotter today then yesterday. No KR 0 LTFT's and the O2's are around 900.

NoGo- I know the O2's aren't wide bands but when you don't have a wide band you can use whenever you want you have to make due with what you have to tune with .

foff667- Well it wasn't just the O2's telling me it was running lean it was also the +9 LTFT's that was kinda indicating it was lean too, oh and the 4* of Knock i was seeing. Combine all that together i was almost positive it was to lean and well i was right lol.

again just because your ltrims are pos/neg it doesnt mean your lean or rich...its just telling you how much the computer is having to compensate to get to what you command it to...if you have a perfectly accurate VE table then your commanded should = your actual but since you dont have a w/b its a guessing game.

Theoretically though, if you do have sensors that are great at finding a 14.7 AFR and tune the VE based off of that in SD mode, won't that get you pretty damn close? As long as nothing else interferes, wouldn't this then go to say adjusting PE based off of the mathematical multiplier concepts can get you close as well? It may not be a "perfect" way of doing things. But, if you're only shooting for say 12.5 instead of 13.0, where will things go wrong? I ask because I'm purchasing HPTuners in a few days and this was my plan of attack. I'd rather not have to spend another $400 on a wideband setup.

I know exactly what your saying, i have gone through this same thing on my L67. Again taking an old scan with 0 KR 0 LTFT and 900 O2's and comparing to that shitty scan of 4* of KR +9 LTFT's and 800-840 O2's i'd say that's lean?
