I am seriously thinking about going from Fbody to Vette this is a big step for me, I'm 19 and this is my dream car, i figure after my car is sold and i have the vette, tag title etc, after putting some money away i'll have about 4k to play w/on the new car, my questions are, what should i do w/4k, it will be m6 c5, also is it really worth it?

You know I am the same age thinking about doing the same exact thing...trading my Hawk for a Vette. I really need to test drive one. Good luck and tell me what you get!

You will find you have not only straight line performance, but it will corner flat like on a rail as well. Not sure what year you are looking at, but you might want to keep the $4K to get a later year Vette as improvements were made throughtout the production run. For instance, if looking at a 99, I think the 00 went with the 2nd version of active handling which is better. In 02 you get the newer rings and pistons. So although not performance modifications, there may be a better way to spend the $4K if you have it by getting a newer car.

Drive one, and you be the judge, I dont think you will be disapointed, my best friend has an 00 SS, and its a sick car, but the z06, just does everything a lil better.

Is it worth it? Hell, yes it is!

I loved my modded 1999 Camaro SS, but when I sold it and got the 'Vette I never looked back. :drive:

P.S.- You'l save on your auto insurance too. ;)

Zip tie mod is taking the factory air lid off and zip tying the air filter to the bottom portion connected to the mas. Its been said to get 14rwhp/11rwtq on average. Great mod for the cost IMHO. I did it with ported MAS and I noticed a HUGE difference by the seats of teh pants. I'll be getting dyno #'s in a few weeks! :)

Yes it is worth it.:) I am 19 and I own a 2001 Z06 Corvette... I bought the car when I was 18 and I'm still lovin' it!
With $4k I would save around $1,000 more and get a used Supercharger kit... or get a cam and all of the bolt on mods. Either way you will like it :)

Where the heck are you 18 and 19 year olds getting the resources to buy Vettes? Hell, I was lucky to afford my truck payment after all the rest of the bills (apartment, utilities, etc.) when I was 19. Are you all living with your parents still?

Well, the way I figure it, you can afford anything depending on how big of a priority you make it. I am young and dumb and I think having a 300+ car payment and 100+ insurance payment is well worth having a ride like a Firehawk or a Vette. Might as well do it now since I might not be able to when I am older lol.

$300+? Let me guess, 6-7 year note?

My Vette cost me over $800 per month between insurance ($96 - and I'm 36), payment ($620 on a 5 year note with $30K financed - A+ credit rating, 4.25%), fuel and maintainence costs. Better look at the bigger picture and not just the payment and insurance. These cars break, too, and when they do, it's a lot more expensive to repair than an F-body.

I have a 4 yr note on my Z06... but I also put $12,500 cash down on it to make the payments lower... I had sold my 95 superchargered cobra and I took all of the money from that plus a couple thousand out of my bank that I had been saving up... So that is how I am able to afford a Z06.

I got a 15.5 at 5.11% for 60 months and it is 326.86. After 13 months, I still owe 12.5 or so. And my insurance is 134 under my mom so i get a break. I have to pay for everything and it sucks. Luckily my school gets kind of paid for with loans and scholarships. I should live at home for free and since we have a college here I could go to it would be easier but who wants to do that? lol :)

Paying for everything sucks, but it makes you appreciate it. You'll more likely trash the shit out of it when its given to you vs having to buy it yourself and spend your $$ to fix shit that breaks outside of malfunctions (read - not driving the piss out of it and breaking).

And loans arent a bad thing. They make your life a little easier in college now-a-days. But I'd be 100% certian that I can swing a vette payment + insurance + maintenace (look into not only oil changes, but clutchs/tq verts, shocks, tires etc) on top of all the other things you're going to pay for.

I bought my vette when I was 19 as well, hell if im gonna work 70-80hr weeks, I gonna have the car I want. With 4 grand I would buy heads/cam package you'll get the best results that way. My insurance isnt that bad either despite me poor drving record. 368 every two months. Im 22 now and saving for a viper.

I would definitely recommend the Vette. I really like the F-Bodies, but at your age and to own a Vette is really great thing. When I was 8 years old (1970) I fell for a 70 Yellow Stingray. I knew one day I would own one. Here we are 35 years later and Vette number three. I will never own anything other than a Vette. You will definitely be surprised about what Corvette ownership brings, that no other car on the planet can. It is something so special that only other Corvette owners have experienced first hand. You will find out once you own one. It is so hard to describe the bond people have to their Vettes and other Vette owners. It doesn't matter if it is a 74 Vette, or a 63 split window. You will find out lol! Go for it!

I went from LS1 SS to Z06 and the Vette is totally different animal. So yes, it is worth it as long as you don't mind a car with two seats.

Hell yes it is worth it. I went from a 98 Cobra to a 02 Camaro to a 03 Cobra then a 02 Z06. I just sold my Z06 last friday and I am now buying a GTS Viper. I love stepping up. I say do it and get a Viper next.

Yeah, but how much was the car and how much do you have financed?

The ones we need to feel for are those that paid full sticker. I have never paid full sticker for a car (even new) and never will (knock on wood). 30 grand for a car is nothing these days.

I am also considering a vette but would like to know what are the big problems areas if there are any that are almost certain to break?

Thanks in advance

I am looking at Head & Cam 00 GTS right now all done up with HRE rims. Not sure if we going to agree on a price but I threw him an offer today. My second choice is a 01 GTS that only has 1400 miles on it for 58,000. I am also still debating if I want to go a little older and get a 99 with the forged pistons and then supercharge it. Ahh such tough choices. I almost bought a 97 Blue with white stripes GTS and decieded to get a newer car as I will put a lot of miles on the car. I am going to use the Viper as a somewhat dailey driver.

Oh and just in case that was sarcasm. I have driven both back to back. Or my 02 Z06 and a 04 SRT 10. I think the Z06 is a more refined car and easy to go fast in. The Viper gets 1 million times the attention and is very fun to drive but not as comftrable. But I dont drive my cars for comfort. So any GTS from 96-2002. Dont like the RT-10's or the SRT-10's in the looks department.

No sarcasm, I was just curious so I could see which horsepower you were talking about given the year. My 03 ZO6 as you probably noticed, made you think I was being sarcastic lol! No way :)

I have had 3 Vettes a 94', 99' and now 2003. The cars are pretty reliable. Never really had any major problems. The C4's do have some digital dash problems and are the biggest collector of water after a wash. You have to watch the weather stripping if you are planning on a 84-96. The older C5's have had some interior wear problems on the seat bolsters and stiching. The later C5's with manual transmissions have had problems with the syncro's and shift forks going around 10,000mi. All in all, they are very easy to maintain and most Vette owners tend to make sure the car has anything it needs.
