Default 5.3 and 6.0 external differences

I THINK I found a 6.0 complete motor for free but before I go through the trouble of pulling it how can I tell for sure its a 6.0 and not a 5.3? I just want to make sure its worth my time to pull it. BTW it has been through a fire so the intake and all plastic pieces and even timing cover and valve covers are gone.

PT# on the block or just measure the bore; 3.779 (5.3) vs 4.00 (6.0)

A 6.0 block will have it's size cast into the block.

Yeah but isnt it in the back in the bellhousing area? This motor still has the tranny bolted to it and I plan on seperating it IF I find out its a 6.0, otherwise Im passing on it.

Heads are casting number 317. The block will be black (not silver) and made of iron (aka a magnet will stick to it). That should be enough to identify.

317's castings started in 01', it could be a 99 or 00 which used an iron 873 cast head.

also the 5.3 block is black and iron as well.

note to self: research more into such differences instead of questioning and hoping to get lucky with a response.

The 6.0L is cast into the block on the front of the motor right below the passenger head.
