Default 408 high CR owners, looking for cam advice

Hate to do this to you guys, but I can't make up my mind on what size cam to get for an 11:1 CR 408. Was thinking 244/248 600/600 114 (will be using nitrous), but I'm not sure. It's going to be a daily driver and I want to get the most power I can out of it without losing driveability. It's got to be hydraulic roller, no solid rollers. Thanks in advance.

That sounds like an ok cam. You are not running a lot of compression. High compression is usually considered 12+. I run a 242 with .600 lift on a 112 with 4 degrees advance ground in. Idles fine, but I wish I had a 114-115 for better top end power. I was going to do a 244 252 .612 .612 on a 114 LSA from comp.

I've tried several cams. I would use something in the high 240's or low 250's on intake duration. I have a 262/270 hydraulic in now, with 12.5:1, and it's a bit much on the overlap.

246/250 .632 111+4
12.5:1 CR
FMS cam

I'll happily sell it to you if you want. I want to go bigger to a 'track only' cam. this is more of an agressive DD cam.

I like the cam your thinking of.
I have a 242/246 and the cars drives great with in my A4.
I still get good gas milage.
The difference between all the cams listed in HP isn't going to be that much.
If your looking for driveability go with the cam you have in mind or something close to it. There is only a small difference in HP because the heads just dont flow any better from 600-700, you are only turning 7000 RPM's tops, and we are still limited in the air flow our motor's see through the intake.

I'm going with a 243/243 .654 (Comp Cams LSK lobes) on 114 for a 455 stroker for my GTO A4. Using PRC springs and Morel lifters. You have a lot of weight to get moving with that truck, so I might look at a reverse split using these lobes without going crazy on duration. Say a 243/235 .654/.646 on 114, keeping the exhaust valve closed a bit longer on the power stroke should pick up some torque down low. Just a thought.

back to the top with another question for you...

if I went 244/248, how much of a difference would there be between say 595/598 lift vs. 612/615 lift (all on a 114 lsa)?

not sure, say their best flow was at 600, would it hurt to have the 612/615 for future head upgrades?

It wont hurt. The heads are the key to making the car go from quick to FAST. I gained 40 HP through a Automatic changing from a ported set of LS1 heads to a REAL SET of ported LQ9 heads.

if your best flow is at 600, you would want more than 600 lift to take advantage of it anyway. effective cam lift is only about 87%

how much difference would there be in driveability between 595/598 and 612/615? or is that even a big enough jump to make a difference?

Lift isn't what you need to worry about with driveability, duration and LSA are going to determine the streetability.

well I just got the flow info on my heads from the guy who ported them (6.0l hand ported). they only flow ~280@.500 intake and ~220@.500 exhaust. Was hoping for a lot better than that, but oh well. he also told me going over .550 lift with these heads is useless and is just putting more wear on my springs than necessary.

what do you all think?

another thing the guy that ported my heads said was I should use a 112 lsa for nitrous, from what I've read, that's too tight, isn't it? what do you all think?

I think you better find another head porter and then go from there.

I didn't have these heads ported, I got them from a friend this way. Better than my stock heads, price I couldn't pass up.
