I just got my WS9 Outlaw hood in and got an estimate at a local body shop. Theyre trying to say its gonna cost around $700 for prep, paint and install. This seems like a ridiculous price to me. What do you think?

Depends on how good of work they do, if they know it's an aftermarket hood, then they are prob knockin it up, cuz most don't fit well, and they know their is time needed to trim, fit, trim, fit, etc...before the paint goes on...

well, mine costs 400 to paint and install, along with some modifying to make it fit right, and the people that painted it used to work for Boyd Coddington, they do amazing work, just look at the pics on my page, www.cardomain.com/id/cynicaladam , so I dont think it should costs 700 to install/prep/paint/modify it.

Well yours turned out great. Ive talked to people on other sites and most have paid around 300-500 to get it done. Im gonna take mine elsewhere.

I just got an estimate for my 2 3/4 " cowl induction hood and the guy topld me that, going the budget route it would cost $1400.Then I took it to a friend of a friend's shop and he said between $400 and $500> So if you don't have a connection,look for small places that do good work they should cut you a good deal.

500 is enough, granted theres a few hours in fitting,then a couple hours to block it out and squirt it a quart of dbc is like 100 and youll use a quart of clear if you bury it so you can color sand it nice...so say 200 in materials and 250-300 labor...

i got an estimate for 700 for my ws9 too cause i wanted it to look completely perfect...The owner of the autobody shop saw my car and ended up asking me to work there and said I can do it all myself eventually for free so now i'm repainting my whole car...guess i just got lucky lol and getting paid awesoem money for an 18 year old.

It sucks living it Kalamazoo, MI because theres not a lot of body shops compared to a bigger city. Plus, I have to have back surgery next week so Im not sure when I can get it done now.

chevy painted my ultra z hood for 100$ hahah...only because when they fixed my car from my wreck it took about a month longer than they said, so they gave me a hella good deal on painting my hood, which i was glad about....but 700 dollars is high...try somebody else

Dayum, $700 bucks is crazy!!! I've been qouted $1200 for prep & paint for a full paint job... If I remember correctly, I only paid $100 when I had my hood painted & that also included some minor blending as well.

depends on where you are i was quoted $650 for just the top side of a hood, good body shop but wtf? only the top.. but other places are the same here.. great being in the bay area where all the rich peole play and shops can charge whatever they want.

700 is really not that bad. I adjust for insurance co and we pay 38 to 50 an hr for the work. It's just not the hood that they are working on. the are going to need to blend for paint match into each fender and then fully clear coat the fenders as well. If they say they can achieve paint match w/out blending into the fenders they either have an incredible painter or it's a hack shop. Just remember especially with a body shop you get what you pay for. You can call your states board of insurance as well to get the ave for the local rates in your area and use it a negoiating tool. You would be suprised how you can save a few bucks negoiating the hrly rate with the shop.

It looks as though my fenders will have to be blended in. However, the general consensus on this board as well as another is that $700 is probably on the high end.

Ill have to look into the average rates, I should be able to get a good paint job done for around $500. Im just going to take my time and search around.

Thats about the ballpark. figure prep, paint, color sand , polish, wax, install. I called my friend who owns the dam shop and he quoted me 700 because its silver or a metallic color, so he had to blend the fenders and front fascia thats just what it is

i agree...... metallic cars are expensive to paint. the have to blend everything and sometimes you can tell where they did it

$300-500 sounds okay but $700 is a bit high IMO.

Metallic colors are what are actually a 3 stage paint and require almost twice the room to blend and tradition paint finishes. I understand the 700 seems a little high and if you can get for 500 from a good shop then by all means do so. I am just saying that I write estimates on cars everyday and 700 is not out of the question. And like I said if the are not going to blend into the fenders I would be on the cautious side, the facia is not always nec as plastice never gains a true paint match. But also you can bargain on the hrly rate with the shops, they'll drop a few dollars an hr to gain your business especially if you ask them to beat a competitor. Hope all goes well with it.
