I was just re-reading the STS Article in GMHiTech - Jan 05. The author mentioned that the cracked block wasn't as strong as the forged stroker internals. Is this literary license or does it have some truth to it?

So here's the question: is there some horsepower number that threatens the integrity of the aluminum block? I've seen some pretty healthy numbers on the Dyno forum, but where is the limit? I not talking about warp-velocity shapnel from other blown parts, just the block itself.

Anybody have some good info on this one? Thanks.

the LS2 is probably a good 30% stronger than the LS1.

Are you talking about cracked rods not being as strong as forged rods? A cracked block isn't good for any power....

The LS1 block is good to 1300 hp or so.

I made 705 rwhp and had no problems except I would lift the heads even with arp head studs usually only on the dyno and once at the track. I probably would use an iron block for my next setup.

First let me say thanks for the responses!

Technical, the article specifically said, "cracked block", that's why I asked. Like the SBC crank journals are good to about 700-800 hp for a 4 bolt, higher for the splayed bolt journals... See where I was going? Thanks again all for the response.
