Default will 978's hold .595 lift fine?

Im swapping my 987's since im getting some valve float i believe with this F11 228/230 .595/.595 114 cam

I just wanted to make sure they would ok without a doubt for this cam and street/track... well 75% street use now

Reason i like these is that they only cost 110ish.. i wouldnt mind the TEA gold spring kit, but thats 250+(still cheap but im about broke).

which would you go with?? Spend the 100 more and get the golds or just get the 978's and slap on the heads?

I'm running 978's with a Comp XER 228/230 .588/.591 112+2 with no problems. One thing that you really need to make sure of is the install height, because coil bind is 1.195" if I remember correctly.

I was just on Comps web site the 987's are 1.150" coil bind .045" less than the 978's. If your install height is 1.800 the 978's won't fit. You better check with a valve spring micrometer. Call Terry at Racetech he can sell you a PRC kit with a .660" max reasonably. He is a sponsor.

i think the TEA's are shimmed at 1.78

it might just be a safer bet for me to go with the gold kit from TEA for these heads cause im pretty sure that will work

Who's springs are they using for their "gold"? I'm using Isky doubles at .646 lift and 7500rpm+ with 0 issues.

Check your setup really close if you stay with those 978s. We've got both the PRC Gold & PRC Platinum spring kits in stock & on special!! I prefer the new platinum package, it has a different retainer configuration that gives you better pressures without the need to shim the springs up.

His springs have already been shimmed to 1.780 so there is no need to check Install height.
Do not believe the specs for coil bind on Comps web site. They coil bind less than comp advertises. We typically see them CB around 1.080" or less with the 978. If you do go the 978 route I will personally meassure coil bind on each spring to make sure you are good to go.
Thanks Brent

BTW like always we will beat any advertised price.

Ditto. I'd get some PRC's, I run them on my F13 with zero trouble.

Hey Brent I figured that Comp was conservative on their coil bind specs, to keep people from pushing the envelope. Well coil bind on my 978's was right around 1.185"-1.190", not significantly less than Comps 1.195". I had to go with special retainers Terry at Racetech made for me, to an install height of 1.855"-1.860". Anyone using 978's without measuring is asking for trouble.

well 978's are pretty much outta the question now then.. im getting the idea that PRC's or the TEA's would be the safer bet now.

Thanks everyone.. now someone just give me some cash to order them with

you must not have much pressure on the seat if your using a 1.860 install height. Did you go to a larger valve? run without a spring cup or sink the valve job.

Not to hijack the thread, but my heads are AS. Comp specs 978's 126lbs @1.850. Jay set up my exhausts at 1.870. Originally he set up the intakes at 1.830 but that was too close to coil bind with my new bigger cam.
