Well, from Nashville to Birmingham would have only been 3 hours driving time going interstate.... But going 231 like we did it took all freakin day... maybe they plan to take back roads to Gainsville... I don't know, just a thought. :D

I know of no back roads to Gainsville...Turnpike to 75. 100 miles away tops. Thats the route guys. You do have to go maybe 15 miles off of 75 if I am remembering right.

That would be cool. Harrisburg doesnt have anything cool, Carlisle is near by there however. Englishtown is lame but real close to NY. Wouldnt Commerce Ga (Year One) make sense?

Yeah Englistown is a large track but the area isnt very good for PT IMO. The traffic and hotels arent great. Pennsylania would be nice if they did Maple grove or Carlisle.

Downtown Orlando the Friday night for sure. Like someone said. The milage usually works out about the same for most long haulers. I drove 1400 miles to the start and 40 miles home.

Yeah, but everyone W of the mississippi will have a long haul just to do the long haul. Good for the east coast crew since it hasn't been there in a while.

At least I can try to make a few of the stop if I can't get enough time off to long haul again.

It's been through the midwest for 4 years straight now. I figured they'd go west coast for '06 (the rumor for the '04 PT was from Dallas to Vegas http://www.quarter-mile.net/forums/images/smiles/heynow.gif

I'm with y'all. Gainsville seems too close. Perry GA is huge, but what else? Columbia, SC, what's there too? Roanoke is about 4 hours from home, pretty much nothing there and the VA state police can suck sometimes. Seems Petersburg at the VA Motorsports Park would have been a better choice. Harrisburg, PA, nice area, but we're surely gonna be at the farm show complex. Not much else to do there either. As for E-town, never been, but heard it's pretty much a mediocre type of area. Either way, we'll be there.

the last two stops are fairly decent...harrisburg- they will probably go to carlisle which isnt too far away...the fair grounds where everything is held. only thing to do in englishtown is the DRAG racing at raceway park which is gonna be awsome. well for me anyway cause im close to home and dont have to worry about breaking anything...:D

Yeah i loved the RT 66 tour in 01! I long hauled the PT for years until they started with the crappy midwest tours! Most long haulers stopped going after those midwest tours so who knows hopefully they listen to us and do a trip that actually goes somewhere! Instead of driving in circles thru the same states! :D

Yep, about a 15-20 minute drive depending on traffic (which during that time of year with most college students at home/on vacation will work out well). I might have to do a short leg of this one, and I think everyone will be pleased with the Gainesville track (I'm biased of course since I race there frequently).

I know this is an old thread and has been laying dormant for some time, But I was wondering is there fee's to participate? I know Hotel fee and food and stuff come out of my pocket. Just wanting to know how it work, I would come down to Florida would go until GA, and then back to the house for me.

As much fun as this sounds I couldnt afford to go the hole distance. But it will be fun.
Thanks in advance for any responses, can PM me the info if you like. I am on here regularly.

Thanks, Neil :usa:

basically its a rolling car show. a few thousand gearheads go from city to city on predetertimed routes to venues at each city, where a really big car show happens. various vendors have booths setup, with brochures and contest. its really fun. everybody gets to meet like minded people.

Well my chances just got better. Got off the phone with my Dad and he's interested in going. So my wife can go to Cape May for the week and hang out at the beach with my Mom and I'll be able to spend a week with my Dad, something that hasn't happened since I went away to college and got married.

I'm stoked.

I have gone 4 of the last 6 years. It's best if you make your own reservations, you will save money. If you stay at the motels close to the events, check in EARLY!

Last year I was bumped from my hotel almost 4 nights in a row! Apparently, the Hotrod Power Tour folks come in with more people on their list, then they have rooms. They stop the evening before to verify they have all the rooms. So if you make your own reservations make sure you check in early, as the motels will bump you to another facility if you don't check in early. Especially if you wait until after 5, you risk getting bumped. After being bumped three nights in a row, I raised hell with Choice (Comfort Inns, Sleep Inn, Quality Inn, Clarion & Econ Lodge hotels and motels) Hotels! I had been bumped three nights in a row! (I had problems every night the rest of the week). I had to get on the phone at the hotel with the 800 # reservation system. They demanded to speak with the motel owner in Nashville and told them to book me in the best room possible and bump someone else, as this quest has been bumped 3 nights in a row! (It was quite the scene in Indianapolis too!). They told me to check in as soon as I get to the next location and if I had any problems to call them back. I did save quite a bit of money, but frankly it wasn't worth the hassle. And, my wife thought something was up when I wasn't at the hotel I said I would be three nights in a row! I told the Choice Hotel reservations folks they just may very well cost me a divorce! If was funny, or I should say it is funny now. It wasn't at the time.
So make your reservations on the Internet and save money, but check in early! Oh, and if you make them on the Internet you have to cancel the reservation the day before arrival. That is one of the "got ya's" doing it through the internet. If you do it by 800# most places let you cancel the day of arrival. If you are driving a classic muscle car, that may be important due to possible break downs. So, think folks and have a great time.

I'll be driving the red 2005 Corvette with competition grey wheels...it's VERY loud to with Random Technology 3" cat-back!

Have a safe trip and good driving!

I ususally stay with Choice Hotels when on P/T. I make my reservations early, I always guarantee w/ credit card and have never been bumped. I ususally do not go to the hotel first. Last year I was upgraded to suites twice due to regular rooms selling out. I have also seen people who reserve their rooms thru HOT ROD Travel service have problems.
