Default build my tubo 400

not having any luck with the manual this year. my need to keep the car driving and not broken w/ clutches or output shafts or ring and pinions is making this look necessary.

i know jack about autos, but you guys know.

-3800# raceweight
-need lockup for commuting
-dont need any frills, no transbrake, no fancy shifter
-have denny's 1350 M6/4l60 spline steel driveshaft.. will save and buy replacement if not useable.
-3.42 gear 12 bolt, 27" hoosier dot tire
-have m6 crossmember w/ energy trans mount

what do i have to have to make the install and make this thing last?

thanks

I'll tell ya what I did and what I wouldn't redo. Keep in mind this is a really, really, really street car...lol.

1. 3.08 ring gear as you don't need gear for turbo torque. It makes a nice cruising gear at 70mph. I'm around 2800rpm.

2. Carl Rossler rmvb T400 period.

3. Vig #4 pump 10.5 inch multi disk lock-up.

4. B&M Hammer shifter...looks stock in a mn6 console.

The above combo drives sweet...the converter is around 3000rpm stall but will sighly pull the car in gear at idle...can't tell it's not a gm converter until you hit it.

What I would not do again is the lockup. It's only worth 75 rpm at 70mph( IF you use a tight converter) and you have to make sure (a pain) it's not locked up or you can hurt the trans....a wot locked up con from 1st to second 's going to break something....plus it's $$$$$$$$ to convert a T400 to lockup.....without lockup you're looking around $2000(trans) plus $1000(converter) plus $150(shifter) plus $500 (misc stuff like lines, speedo sensor, flexplate). Good luck!

ps: I know it's hard to think about, but if you tune down to 600rwhp you probably can keep the mn6 and enjoy it.

Anyone have any experience with the raptor transmissions? They look like an affordable alternative.

My numbers add to $3650....Raptors around 3800 with a ds....pretty close.

The lockup just isn't worth the $ if you spec a good converter. 75 rpm in cruise rpm isn't much...now a real loose converter could be a different story.

1. th400 that can handle up to 1200 hp (around 1500). I recommend a tbrake-most good ones include it anyways and will help you build boost at the line.
2. Shifter-I like my b/m pro ratchet and it's not expensive (around 175)
3. converter...I recommend neal chance (~1500 for weld together ~2000 for bolt-together)
4. Flexplate (tci makes a nice piece for 200)

I might be missing something but that's about it. You can slot your m6 xmember and use that.

Man thats alot for a converter.... but i hear nothing but goo things about them.

I called Trans King and for a Built Th400 RMVB, with a trans break and there 4000 stall converter it was $1750. TCI Flexplate $200. Shifter $200 i like the B&M rachet also. Lokar trans dipstick $80. Shifter cable and Misc parts $200.
Around $2430 and it looks like alot of peopl ehere in Texas are using them with no problems.

I spent 4500 on a 4l80e and maintained overdrive and lock up. It will hold 600 rwhp no problem. I run the vig multi disc and it seems really efficent, and holds like a **** in lock up. Just an option if it is a daily driver.

I bought my tranny off my buddy who ran true street and ran consistent 9.0's at around 160mph. I got it for 900 and he had just had it freshened up. It's good to around 1200hp and then past 1200hp or so everything takes a big leap since you then need all the big input shafts, planetaries, and etc.

Tranny-900 (came w/ the required dipstick since it was in a 94 camaro already)
Shifter-125
Converter-1425
Flexplate-225
Flywheel bolts arp-25
Driveshaft-300

I came out to around 3k but I don't have a speedo or anything like that. I would say 3.5-4k out the door to be on the safe side. Worth every penny IMHO.

talked for a long while on the phone with chris from ck performance about an AOD in the car. less weight and overdrive is good; i like how everything sounds with that so far.. waiting to hear the bottom line $ on the g force 6 speed build though.

I tried one from Extreme Automatics and it did not hold up. I'm sure others can build them stronger. Mine was supposed to be 9 second ready, all billet,blah,blah,blah....Texas Speed seems to be having good luck with theirs. You have to have a one off TC built.

leave the raptor alone. David, get with twntrboce..Mike Brown, he had a rossler t-400 with transbrake and now has a rossler 4l80e with t-brake. THAT is the way to go.
