Default Do I need Rod Bolts???

Just did cam swap, see sig. I was planning on setting the rev limiter to 6500 when I get it tuned by the shop next week. Will this be ok for a few months. I do plan on spinning it to 6500. I was wondering if this is too big of a gamble on the stock rod bolts? It might see the drag strip once or twice in the two month period, just to have a comparison gains with the LS6 intake.

By mid August I hope to have LS6 intake, ARP rod bolts, and HP tuners. After I get HP Tuners I will do some re-editing for the LS6 intake and reset the rev limiter. I plan on setting it at about 6800 and shifting at about 6600-6700 once the rod bolts are installed.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I spin mine up to 6800 on a stock bottom end. Many LS1 guys go into the high 6000 range on stock rod bolts, so I would say that 6500 is safe.

Hmm...Yeah its better safe than sorry, though.
Isn't there a certain year that the rod bolts were the weakest or something to that effect? I'm thinking it was the 98 and 99 LS1 Fbodys, I could be wrong though.

I have ARP's and shift at 6500 right now. After the new cam im gona be shifting at 7k. For me I wouldnt worry about them till you got to 6800 and over. Dosent really sound like you plan to drive the car hard that much so I just wouldnt bother with em.

2001 and 2002 LS1's have slightly stronger rod bolts from the factory. I can't remeber if this includes 2000 or not. Anyway, 6500 is perfectly safe for your engine. That's only 300 rpm above the stock rev limit. I even went to 7000 rpm a couple times on the stock rod bolts.

I have my rev limit set at 7000 rpm now with Katech rod bolts. When I called Katech, they wouldn't commit to any maximum rpm, but when I said I planned to go to 7200, they said that was no problem. I hit the limiter about 10 times last weekend, and I also missed a shift and forced it past the rev limit once with the present seup. It still runs great with no taping sounds.

I say put the bolts in; they are cheap insurance really. Anybody can miss a shift.

the 98 and 99 blocks have poor oil return to the pan, 00 is the first year this was corrected. perhaps that's what you're thinking of?
