Exclamation Yella Terra users Come In.... RE: Valve Float

I am thinking that I have an issue with valve float due to my dyno graph, XE-R lobes, and what not. I am looking to upgrade my rocker arms but hear a lot of people say that aftermarket rocker arms weigh more than stock, and will thus cause valve float rather than get rid of it. Does anyone who uses Yella Terras have valve float? Thanks!

Here is what I am planning to eliminate valve float:
- Thunder Racing hardened pushrods (already installed)
- Yella Terra roller rocker arms
- Titanium retainers
- Patriot 'Gold' dual valve springs

titanium retainers and dual valve springs will help from what I understand.

You're numbers seem extremely low for having a cam, LT's, bolt-ons and last but not least, a supercharger! Was that a mustang dyno maybe?
Just went to your site and I must say that dual cutout y-pipe looks sweet! I bet that's loud as all hell when open.

Yes I know the numbers are low. I am missing 100rwhp or more. It was a dynojet, not mustang dyno. I think valve float may be one of the causes, because the power peaks at about 5300 and falls off from there.

Put the stock rockers back on. I had Comp Pro Mags, had valve float at 5300 rpm as well, and they were professionally adjusted. No need for aftermarket rockers, I turn 7000 rpm all the time with my stockers and have never had a problem.

well, i do have a set of yella terra's and i do have a big dip in my graph from 5200 to 5800. It maybe also a bent pushrod, a colasped lifter....

Im not sure if the yella'z are responsible but i do know that i will check this out very soon....been really busy down here...

I have been researching a set of crane gold, 1.8 rockers, the kit includes everything you need and you should pick up some extra poines..though a few factors like deck clearance, fro example, need to be address from my understanding....

this seems to be a recurring things on this board with these cars....not so much with the terra'z but with everything in general....

I'm running an aggresive cam with Comp 918's, Yella Terra's, Thunder hardened push rods, and titanium retainers. There is no evidence of valve float on my dyno graph.

Valve float has little to do with rockers if installed at specs. It is the spring pressures that do not match your cam (either that or they are tired)

I am running YTs, a Comp 220/224 .581/.581 cam, and AFR 205s with whatever valve springs that they come with. I have no valve float issues.

With my yt's I had valve float with the comp r lifters, I switched to the stock lifters and no more float.

They yt's are overall lighter than stock but weigh almost double at the tip of what a stocker does. Just stay away from the comp r lifters.

Get the Morel lifters if you can afford them. 5 bills roughly but worth it according to some. I got them, with Crane 1.8's. Firing up the new motor Saturday.

I wouldn't worry about getting the rockers. Some of our best sponsors only use stock rockers. Focus you time on getting the springs and retainers and it should fix your problem.

I had Harland sharps with patriot duals and floated the valves at 6300. I reinstalled the stockers and it seems to pull now to the 7500 rev limiter, but I haven't been back on the dyno to verify it.

I've heard repeatedly that the stockers are way easier to rev without valve float than any aftermarket rocker out there including the high dollar Jesel's. I think I'm sticking with the stockers for now myself

I have a set of slp 1.8's with comp r lifters and patriot performace stage 2 5.3l heads with a 222/224 566/568 lift and only managed to put down 370 rwhp????... i know my weiand manifold is part of the problem and I am switching to a ls6, but are the 1.8's causing problems??.... car has full exhaust, and cant understand why I am putting such little power to the ground??....I feel your pain

My YT's work fine. It sounds like the stock springs are still in the car with the TR224. The stock springs fall off at about 5300 rpm.

what he said was is that he is going to replace his springs with patriot springs. he doens't say what he has in there currently.
