Default need help, I got a hole in the side of my block

I blew my engine yesterday. the car runs 7.6x 1/8mile on motor. I had 94,000 miles and 1500+ passes at the track. It blew on a nitrous run with a 50shot. It is a 98 Camaro stock bottom and stock heads with tsp 231 237 cam. The car is race only in a street legal class only restictions are dot tire and mufflers.

I have never been it the bottom end of the engine and I don't know much about what to buy for it. I would like to go forged at lest for the pistons and rods and maybe the crank. This car is my bracket racing car and I don't plan on going much faster maybe I would like to run 7.4x but thats it I don't want to put bars and belts in it. I do want it to last a while with out breaking though.

What should I buy and where should I buy it. I really need my car back.
If I am replacing the pistons what kind do I need.
if I do the crank?
what littlle things will I need?
what kind of $$$ am I looking at

any info would be great thanks

You need a shortblock. You are looking at $2800 (no core) from LME>>> sponsor. Speak to Bryan. His work is top notch with good parts.

What is your budget?

You can get forged (stock crank) 348s for around 3K.

For an extra grand you can get a Ls2 402 complete short!

Personally I would do it all at once (if you can afford it)

LS2 402, AFR 225's and a decent cam.

Stock crank is VERY VERY strong so no need to upgrade to forged unless you are going with a stroker. forged rods and pistons are a great idea. Should also consider ARP head and mainstuds.

Good luck! Sounds like your motor lived a long hard live before expiring

will the ls2 work with my stock heads and other parts
I don't want to spend that much but would consider given what will have to be spent already. But it my be alittle to much over my buget being I didn't have a budget yesterday for this LOL

if I buy all the parts and put it together myself would this be cheaper for either option

thanks

also I will check with LME thanks

NO

Get a blueprinted shortblock, especially the way you drag that car.

the pic in my sig is my old car but it has been enhanced with a photo edit.

I called LME yesterday I think I will go with there shortblock.
How long did it take for you guys to get your engines from them.
They told me 3 weeks. I just wanted to see how long it normaly takes from them and I need my car back. I am first in points and will have to race my truck in its place untill I get my car back togather. So I am crossing my fingers.LOL.

thanks

Just a heads up, you will more then likely need a few other items.
I would pull the camshaft and make sure it is still in good condition.
A lot of times when the bottom end comes apart it does more damage then you think. If the cam is hurt your crank might be bad as well which is no biggie if your buying a new shortblock.
I would pull my heads and make sure there aren't any bent valves that need to be replaced.
Lokk at your oil pan very carefully and make sure there are no cracks in the pan.
You might end up needing a new windage tray/oil pan/ oil pick up tube/ cam etc and if your bracket racing this will give you more down time if you dont find out now.
The oil pump is normally fine.
I myself would add a nice set of heads and get some extra HP while your doing this.

I am in the same boat, blew the motor up in my race car acouple of weeks ago. I am now finding out it is cheaper to buy a shortblock than to rebuild the stocker. Good luck.

Bring the heads into a machine shop and get them resurfaced and checked for damage. When I had a hole in my block I had to scrap everything except some senors, front and rear cover, and the oil pan. Buy a good oil pump ( I use katech's). Go through everything so you can order necessary parts before the short block comes.

thanks for the replys

I was thinking about a set of heads while I have it out what would you suggest as far as heads for my engine.
I ordered the LME shortblock.
I have 231 237 cam, LS6 intake, LT headers, No cats
also if I change my heads does anything need to be done to the intake.
thanks

also forgot to add I want to run pump gas and I would like to run a 50hp off nitrous not all the time but just as a back up in the case that the track was a little slippery off the line I would be able to make up a few numbers.
