clutch poll!! Hey guys,
I was just wondering if everyone could give me (and mabe others) some ensight on which clutch to buy. I've read countless threads about one clutch to another and I'm torn between all of them. I have done a little searching but mabe I'm using the wrong prompts to get the results I need. I figured that a poll would probably be the best way to show these results. For the sake of confusion let's omit any polls that include the extreme clutches for 600+ hp. For the most part I believe most of us are around or below that figure. Thanks for the replies in advance. Chris

one thing to take into account is not too many people have had the chance to use the aussie clutch. My spec still has a good bit of life left in it and im not sure what im gona get to replace it when it goes, whatever it is though it will be lighter and have an unsprung disk

Never used an aussie, I used to have a Ram and now I am running a Spec with no problems. Try to get a clutch that does not require an adjustable Master cyc, just another thing that could go wrong.

I just replaced the spec3 with the aussie (oz700). I got the spec for sale with the billet F/W 4K mi on it. It was'nt quit done but I had tranny problems and did'nt want to have to take it out again in a year or so. The spec was still hooking fine, did'nt slip a bit. 275.00 shipped. I did like it though.

RAM Powergrip HD here... held awesome on its first test at the track two weeks ago. Took 6500+ rpm clutch dumps on slicks all afternoon and evening, and just kept coming back for more.

OK...I just fitted my Spec 4f iron disk. I used the supplied spacer, but the clutch appears to bite quite high on the pedal. Not sure if the slave is holding the clutch open a bit or not.
Have to say though, I am amazed at how it drives. It really does drive almost like a standard clutch so far. Thats only with about 30 miles on it so far.
I'll give it a few more miles before I think about giving it any abuse..

poll Thanks for the results so far guys. I guess I should have thought about the aussie clutch before I put it on there but those were the main ones I have seen/could think of. If you could please include your thoughts on how the clutch drives: chatter ect.

Gave mine a little try today at full throttle. No biggy, but all seems fine. Just a couple of blasts thru 1st to 3rd or so.
Still drives good, but it is getting sharper. Doesnt slip quite as nice as when it was first installed, but still very driveable on the road.
Ive no complaints so far... spec 4f

Chris, and MW2 Performance;
Spec, Ram, and McLeod all use OEM clutches from us. They buy our perfectly good OEM clutches and rip them apart and beef them up, all to varying degrees of performance. Pete at Spec is a great guy, and true Southern Gentleman, as is Pat at Ram. They have been in the clutch business for many many years and put out a great product. However, if I were in the market for a non-OEM clutch, something we don't offer, I would be looking into McLeod. Red Roberts founded Weber Clutch back in the 60's, I believe, and has since added/created McLeod Clutch. He is a recent inductee into the Automotive Industry Hall of Fame, along with distinguished people like Henry Ford, Lee Hunter, Mr. Iacoca, and a bunch of other pioneers in our industry. Red Roberts, well into his Grey Haired years, still mans the tech line at McLeod/Weber Performance. Stock clutches....give me a shout. Performance clutches? Call Red Roberts at McLeod/Weber Performance. Just my 2 cents.

I had a Spec 3 lasted less than a year with 12k on it and it was worn to the rivets. I was only producing 350 RWHP at the time. Then I went with a RAM Powergrip. Had it in about 9 months and the dampner springs just blew out. Putting down 400 rwhp. Now I got a Textralia and both my chatter and shifter vibration I had is no longer there. I love it!!

I wanted to make a point of correcting the above reference to our plates. Our covers are actually stamped (LS1) for us specifically (I misspoke in my initial post...I was trying to anser too many questions at one time). As such we have control of the build and thus the capacity of our units. The use of generic plates is not-uncommon but these are not truely stock as these cars came with SAC plates from the factory. Beyond that, the actual plate and leverage (design and execution) are specific to manufacture. That being said, there are a number of ways to increase clamp load (generally revolving around changes in leverage). Let me know if you have any further questions. Thanks!!!

Well its not on your list but I hated my centerforce dual friction with a passion. However, when it went out after 12k miles and centerforce wouldnt sell me the disc only, I bought the centerforce "light metal" disc and installed it with my pressure place and flywheel from the DF. It has VERY little slip but man it grips like hell!
