Question A4 Shifter Button

Got kind of a weird problem that started today. The button on my shifter **** (stock A4 shifter) doesn't do anything anymore. Meaning I can move the shifter between gears w/o pressing it. The real problem I have with this is the keys won't come out of the ignition. Where do you guys think I should start?

start tearing into the center console, theres a rod thats in the shifter that moves when you press the button, sounds like its either sticking or broken

Hmmm, this should be fun. Definatley more at home under the hood than under the console, lol. I'll see what I can find.

Well, the problem was simpler than I was thinking. I realized today was the first time I drove the car since I put my activation switches in the ashtray hole. Some of the wires were interfering with the shifter linkage uderneath.
