Default LS1 T56's, Borg Wanger or Tremec questions...

Okay, I'm at a loss for what years of LS1 F-bodies got the Borg Wanger T56 and which ones got the Tremec T56? Also, which one is better and what are there differences?

Sorry if this has already been talked about on here. Didn't really know what to seach on to find a thread like this.

Thanks!

Ted

All of the T56s are the Borg-Warner design. The production was moved to Tremec for '98 callendar year( not model year). There are really no differences in them. There are statements that the LT1s were better but , again . there were little differences between the LT1&LS1 T56s. The major difference was in the clutch release system. The LS1s have a concentric slave with a restricted feed. The new system has been the root of many transmission problems elated to poorly releasing clutches.

Only on some models . LT1s were offered with 3 differnt gear ratio sets. Most used the same 2.66 low gear ratio set as the LS1. there were also 3.36 and 2.97 sets offered for LT1s.

The 94's and up all had the same gearing. It was only in '93 that the F-body got the different ratio tranny's for they had 2.73 and 3.23 rear end ratios that year. In '94 they went with 3.42's in the back and that's when we got the skip shift feature. That is if anybody actually still has that working on their car!
