Engine knocking on cold start-up ?

Engine knocking on cold start-up ? What causes this, and what can be done to fix the problem ? This would be on a 2001 Corvette. My car did this slighty but Pop's Corvette is pretty stinking loud. All I hear anymore is that big az cam in the T/A.
