Default My lame attempt at True Fire

After seeing Brett's (Stryker14) art work and his ***** to take on this awesome effect on his own I thought what the hell, I'll give it a try too. I've always been very good at art with a pencil and paper, but I've never painted or picked up an airbrush before in my life. Major thanks and props to Brett for helping me out and giving me tips and pointers and letting me watch him while my paint was on order. He's even let me borrow some of his paint while I was waiting for mine to arrive. This is not my first attempt- I'm way too embarased to post that, but not too shabby for my second try I think. As long as I get better and better every time I will not consider all my investments in vain (which I really dove off into the deepend this time with all these materials and supplies).

Now this was painted on poasterboard, so it doesn't "pop" and stand out as much as if it were done on a painted panel and cleared, but I'm just trying to get the overall shapes and layouts down first. Enough excuses, all comments and/ or suggestions/ critisizing welcome now...

Hmmmmmmmmmm

Nahh, not yet, better practice a little more first

the flames need more sense of direction. They kind of look like a blob of flame with no sense of travel.

Other than that, not bad for an early effort!

That, and some of the lines are a bit too sharp. Work a bit more on your blending, also. Very good for a 2nd attempt!

Nice job

Here's some eye candy, a friend of mine does air brushed fire. This is my buddies vette that they just finished up. Take into consideration that this is only a show car, not a driver. =)

Thanks for the feedback. I'll try to incorporate your suggestions. I really appreciate constructive critisizm. There really is more direction than meets the eye, but with the crappy poasterboard and at nighttime the camera didn't pick it up too well. I will be attempting it on a painted panel tomorow.

BLk01SS- Yeah, I saw that on corvetteforum. Simply stunning!

Not a bad second try. Keep up the practice and you could start making money at this.

Looks pretty good. Just extend the length for times the width and point them like there flying in the wind...looks good.

man who tought you how to paint...they must have been a 2nd grader. Haha, keep at it man. There is a reason why not too many people are doing this kind of thing. It can drive you up the wall when you dont come out with a good product after being in the booth for several hours. I can see a big improvement from your first try so I can imagine it will only get better. Just dont surpass my weak attempts at the true fire. I will have to hunt you down and steal all your paints.

As others said, it's hard to give an accurate opinion when it's got no direction. Looks like an orange shasta loogey without direction.

I would add some add some lighter, whites and yellow to the licks that arent just on top. That would give it a more realistic look.

I would, but no matter what color background I put it on, right now, my stuff looks like ****. Hopefully this panel I do today will at least be better than the one I did last night. When I get better I'll give it a shot for ya

Looks pretty damn good for a 2nd try, you definitely have some skill and I think it's safe to say you made a good investment.
