Default which makes more power?

i am sure i know the answer to this one but anyway . i am looking at the cost of each

stock bottom end LS1 with AFR's (205), fast intake, 78mm TB, and a camshaft. some thing with good torgue and not a peaky motor. OR.....

A 402 , or 408 , iron block with the same . ? any benefits to each other ?

The bigger engine will make the most power if the induction systems are the same.

What he said. More displacement = more power. If you go big cubes with a 90mm lsx/tb combo and heads/cam you can make 500+ rwhp.

Or you could do what I am working towards, which is forged pistons/rods in your current block with heads/cam and nitrous.

Maybe not more power but definately more trq. It all depends on the combo.

450++ rwhp. 90/90 LSX setup vs an LS6 intake would help. Search this and the dyno results sections.

Part of what you get with that is the forged internals. Compare what it would cost to forge the internals on your current, stock bottom end and it makes more sense. That is, if you plan to do anything that would require some forged internals........

if you're gonna spend the $1300 on the Lsx manifold and TB, go with the 90mm. Stock is either 74 or 76, I forget, but with the tapered runners on the lsx, along with the bigger inlet you get +20rwhp and +15 foot lbs. You will want to make future mods and regret not forking over the extra cash in the first place. Yeah, ls6 intake costs half as much as lsx, but people with a Z06 would benefit from an lsx, definitely better.

You dont want to spend 3000 on 50 HP.
That makes since.
Lets say you did a 346 with rod bolts AFR205 heads and a 224/228 cam.
You should make 430-470 in a M6 depending on the rest of the parts on the car.
You will have all the same costs in a 402/408 plus 300 extra on heads for the 225's, 3-5 thousand more for the stroker package, plus around an additional 500-1000 dollars for extra costs in switching to a 402 or 408.
With a very streetable cam maybe 238/242 you should make between 450-500 again depending on the on the bolton's.
You gonna spend some good money on going bigger but to some of us its worth it.

Bottom line there is a ~$5000.00 difference between a 346/7 forged max setup to a 402/408 setup.
