I started my car this morning, i got a oil service light. Although it seems to be a little early, but that's not that point. Later tonight the car was sitting running. As i got back in it and put it into gear, the SES light came on. The car still runs just fine, idles fine, no issues that i can tell. It's just a steady light. Tommorrow i'm gonna take it around the corner and have the guy i know scan the codes. But any ideas? I took the car on the highway and runs just like it did before, fine. The light annoys me, the only good thing is the dealer i bought it from has to fix it, cause the car hasn't had it's first inspection since i bought it.

i reset the PCM the other night, and i never saw the light again. However would a loose gas cap cause an issue. I had just gotten gas before that. I tightend it while the PCM fuses were out. No more SES.

I don't know about our cars, but some cars will show an ses if the gas cap is not on.

Yes have had a loose cap on mine, the SES code was something to do with lack of pressure in the tank. I guess the Camaro would be the same as a Trans-Am in the respect.

However I missed an oil change on mine once, if the change oil light comes on often enougth I think that also sets the SES code, proably a safety feature incase the change oil bulb has gone.

that's interesting. I didn't think it was time to change the oil on my car yet, so the oil light surprised me. I bought the car, the oil was nice a golden colored. i put 1000 miles on it, it's now a nice brown, but i didn't think it was time. oh well off to the parts store today.

The time to change oil is done an a mile timer. Usually about 3000miles it will come on, if you drive the car harder it will be less, the ECU has some kind of adjustment in it. Perhaps your car done 2000 miles, the garage changed the oil, but didn't reset the oil counter, therefore comes on 1000miles after you have brought it. Its possible.....

Yes I would just to be safe. I dont suppose the oil costs much in the USA, for the sake of keeping the engine funtioning well, gotta be worth it. Petrol is expensive over here too, 40 GBP to fill up thats about $74 US dollars. Anyway, I would change the oil. Once changed you have to hold in the trip/oil reset button on the dash for about 20 seconds.
