Exclamation Need A New Clutch Now!!!

Hey guys, i need a new clutch A.S.A.P. I drive a 99' Trans Am WS6 & my clutch is slippin horribly. It just started this weekend & i was on my way to the track, so as u can imagine it ruined my weekend. There is so much controversy over the best clutches on most the threads i read. So here is what i want. I would like to know which clutch is the BEST. Money is an issue so we will say keep it at $400 or under w/o pilot & throughout. Please only post facts not opinions. Im looking for a clutch that will hold up to or over 400 RWHP for future mods. I am completely stock right now. I would very much appreciate a complete parts list from anyone who can help.

At $400 you're not looking at the best clutch options. For example, a GM Z06 piece including flywheel, disk, and pressure plate is $425 at MTI...the nicer Textralia and Exedy pieces are in the $900+ area on up to $1600 for an Exedy twin-disk.

Maybe check into the LUK Gold, search around and see what you think.

When i said "BEST" that was meant as in the "BEST" clutch for around that amount of money. I know the "VERY BEST" clutch is gonna be very expensive & probably for a little more extreme application than i need. I just need to know Which clutch is the MOST reliable & best quality in that price range. When i start sprayin im gonna upgrade again, but that will be about a year away. And i do drive agressively & go to the track bout 2 times a month.

Also it can be a little over $400, but im not lookin to spend anywhere over say $475, not right now anyway.

I just talked to John at Texas Speed & i can get a Ram Powergrip for $369 w/shipping & another $125 for a 01' slave & throughout. But, I also just talked to a guy i know that is a fellow f-body owner ( he runs a 99' Z28 runnin a 12.9 1/4) & he told me when he owned his Trans Am WS6 that he used a Centerforce Dual Friction clutch & he never had a problem. They r about the same price, Centerforce maybe a little cheaper, & Centerforce has been around makin racing clutches for years. My question is why do so many people talk bad about Centerforce clutches? R they people tryin to exceed the clutch capabilities & then whining bout it or what?

HEY ,i HAVE A SPEC 3 IN MY 00 ss AND I HATE IT.iT CHATTERS WAY TO MUCH.i'M REPLACING IT WITH A SPEC 2 PLUS SET UP.i BELEIVE IT HOLDS 500+ FT LBS OF TORQUE AND YOU CAN FIND THEM FOR UNDER 400.The spec 3 is rated at 680 torque and is good for strip use only unless you want to shake out of your car!

I just called Centerforce directly & talked to one of their techs. They told me what all they do to their clutches before they go out & they send u a data sheet with it. They said most the people that have sent them back in or had problems r the people that just flat out abuse the clutch or try to put more power through it then what its rated for. He also told me that the clutch is rated at up to 675 HP. Didnt specify if it was to the flywheel or rear wheels, but 670 is way safe above what im tryin to do with this car. They stopped offering a throughout & slave because so many people r switching which one they r using, so now its up to the customer. I think im gonna go with Centerforce. Well know name, good quality, & i have had excellent performance out of their Dual Friction in my import. I can always pick up a new slave & throughout for another $125. I think this way is better anyway, u can choose your own slave & throughout.

I had a spec 3 that was burnt up by 4K mi. Now I have the Textralia oz700 and I have about 200 miles on it now. It feels pretty good and does not chatter at all.

Its a definite go now. Im getting a Centerforce Dual Friction (DF017010) from a local speed shop(so i can pay half now & half in a week or two) & I talked to John at Texas Speed & am getting a 01' slave & throwout from him.
Total cost: Clutch $370
Slave & throwout $125
Install $150 (got a mechanic friend doin it)
Not bad all said & done w/install & im still below $700 Total.
