Default How to fix shifting problem?

As of last night my tranny is acting a little funny. If I take off from a dead stop, it shifts into second so softly I can't even feel it, even at 3/4 throttle. The only way I know it even shifts is the rpm drop. I feel the 2-3 shift and it seems fine as if it has been untouched. I also noticed that if I drop it into 2nd and give it about 2/3 throttle, it stalls up then automatically shifts into 1st. Again so soft, even with a downshift! A stock A4 isn't supposed to do that. I'm stuck on what could be wrong with it. I thought it may be the 1-2 shift solenoid. I also thought about the stall but the 2-3 shift is fine. My only problem is in the 1-2 shift or the 2-1 shift. I have the stock stall, stock tranny, and 2.73s in the rear all with 51k. If this has happened to you, what did you do to fix it? Thanks in advance.

Mine did that but it was I shattered the reaction shell and broke a few teeth. Maybe your clutches?? Is any lights on for vehicle service?

None at all. Whatever it is, the PCM doesn't know about it.

Everything is fine except for the 1-2 shift. I have tested out the other gears at various throttles and let it automatically shift and I also manually shifted. Those gears are fine. I'm even more convinced now that it may be the 1-2 shift solenoid. I'm just not sure if that would cause it to slip into 1st from 2nd.

Somebody please give me some input. When it comes to trannys, I don't know enough to accurately diagnose problems. I need to know if this has happened to anyone and how they fixed it. Thanks .

Now as of last night, I have to let off the throttle for it to shift and just barely ease back onto the throttle to keep it from slipping back into first. Does no one out there have any suggestions?

Thanks for offering to help diagnose the problem. I haven't been able to call yet but I think I'm going to change out the 1-2 shift solenoid first. If that doesn't solve the problem, I'll be sure to give you a call.

I'd like to offer a couple thaughts. The band comes on for the 1-2 shift(when commanded) and the forward clutch is already applied. Your band could be burnt/glazed causing your long/soft 1-2 shift. You prob don't feel it in 4th cuz the 3-4 clutch is already on and with less load at speed the same symptom may not show in 4-th. Or your 1-2 accum may be plastic and cracked or just have a bad d-ring causing a pressure drop and a long/soft 1-2. These are just some thaughts and with 51k it's not unheard of to need a rebuild. (sorry)
As far as shift solenoids they either work or don't. They aren't known to cause a delayed/soft shift. Let us know what you find.

Looks like a new gear or something else is gonna have to be put in here. Its not too bad though because a friend of mine had 3rd and 4th go out in his Z28 and it only cost him $400 at a local shop to get the gears replaced.
