I've got my 98 Formula and it having the mods in the sig, I would take a 04-05 GTO anyday of the week over my POS.

I had the chance to go look and sit on one the other day and all I have to say is, WOW. The interior is so much nicer and a hell of alot more comfortable. The way ecerything is laid out and the quality of all the interior pieces really sets it away from my Fbody. Exterior looks so nice with it lower than most cars stock and just the way it is shaped really looks nice. I did not get a chance to drive it due to the fact that most dealers will want to run your credit before driving it.

After reading about em and finally being able to see one up close and being able to feel the inside, I think I have made up my mind to begin saving up some cash for a dwon payment and put the Formy up for sale soon.

Hopefully you will see me in a goat in the VERY near future!

I traded in a 98 TA on my 04 Goat and have never looked back. You cannot get a better car for the money. V8 with great Power, RWD. Excellent interior and under the radar. I love my GTO. :drive:

I wouldnt trade my GTO for anything, especially now. 551rwhp is just so nice in a luxury type coupe!

I know I will never look back myself. I traded in my 2002 Z28 A4 for a 05 goat M6, the only aspect where I will miss the Z28 was in Traffic or waiting at a long stop light. I loved the Z28 but when I drove 2004 Goat m6 last summer I was hooked, then when the 05 came out and I drove 65 miles to a dealer ship, I bought the 05 Yellow Jacket. A lot more comfortable and a lot better build quality in my opinion. Plus throw in the fact that I went from 2002 Z28 to the 2005 Goat and my insurance dropped $ 23 a month as well :) .

Yea right now my insurance is about 100 a month. I am wondering what it is going to cost if I get a GTO...

Again I can't wait to test drive one or atleast drive in one.

I`ve done that, buy something for a nice daily driver and then mod the hell out of it instead. Your friends remind you it was supposed to be a dd and give you shit all the time.

You have the color I want but I am not looking to get one for about 7-9 months. Hoping price will drop, which I am very sure it will.

I also noticed mods are not cheap like my Fbody, or I should say not as cheap as my Fbody.

The gto has a terrible factory stereo and bad wheelhop. When that is the only bad thing you can say about a car, you have a damn nice car. I love mine.

Save up and get one. I started with a formula also till I drove the goat. You should be able to at least test drive a 04 GTO that is used. I had to about twist their arm on a 05 till I started to walk then they let me. This was in march when they were in short supply. Great cars you wont be disappointed.

What is this shit about not playing CR-R's?

Yeah mine plays CD-Rs just fine. It can't play MP3s though. I thought the stereo sounded better than the Monsoon in my Camaro. I'm pretty happy with it. Just turn off the EQ and crank up the sub amp and it sounds pretty good. Thinking about a speaker upgrade for the front but I'm not touching the head unit.

Any thing you guys don't like about the 04 or 05's?
I am hoping that the 05's come down in price in 8 or so months but if I find a good deal on a 04, I'll have to go with that.

Thanks for all the comments!

I don't like that the oil pressure and voltage gauges on the Australian cars aren't plug and play on the '04s while they are on the '05s.

I am definately getting one but want to wait a year or two till the prices go below 17-18K for an 04. Something about luxury+power :)

I have the fast one so she got mad so we traded in her o4 gto for a yellowjacket 05 saturday to level out the playing feild a little.

There's no need to envy....
Go down to the dealer and test drive one this time. It will put a smile on your face and you'll buy one. End of story.

I think it's the CDs. Mine plays CDs that I burned 3-4 years ago perfectly. This winter I burned some music using CDs from the same batch from 3-4 years ago. (Yeah I still had some.) Those play perfect. I bought new CDs and those skipped like crazy. I found some black Memorex CDs that play without skipping though.

Just be careful for disks with a thick coating on them because of graphics on top. The thickness it adds WILL make them not play in our cars.

This car has to be one of the best Daily Driver/Hot Rod combos going. Ya get the Gen. 3 engine with all its excellent attributes and a near cadillac ride and comfort for a good price. But I do still miss the grass roots appeal of my Camaro.

Funny you mention that, when I graduate and we get situated in a house she has decided she wants one. It is between that or a C5 or C6 for her depending on what she wants. The GTO will probably be a wknd car when I move home and get a second car anyways.

I heard some people having this problem. I've burned CD-Rs from several different brands. I burn with Nero & run a slow burn speed. No problems here. I have more problems out of the computer doing the burning. :bang:

Where do you get these gauges and where/how do the install on the 05?

I doubt they're a sponsor here so I'm not sure if I should post the website. I don't think any sponsor here even offers the package though. Here's a link to a big thread at LS1GTO.com about the gauges.

GTO gauge pod (http://www.ls1gto.com/forums/showthread.php?t=13049)

The pod goes on top of the dash and replaces the panel that's just above the center vents. I think one company, JHP, has a package for the 2005's but not the 2004's yet. You guys with the 2005's already have the harness *right there* underneath that panel to hook up the gauges. This company has the gauges that are on the Australian cars so it'll look factory stock. :)

We have two small kids so the vettes are out of the question. And the GTO's are just as fun as my buddys vettes.

Actually, the Corvette and the last gen F-body are why I bought the 2004 instead of the 2005, because all the engine mods carry over. Same LS1. CAI and exhaust are different, but still not a bad deal.

Those rear wheel wells will hold a lot of tire. I've run a 11.5" ET Street in the back, with the right offset. There's very little room in the front for big tires, however.

I've had the best luck with burnt CDs in the GTO burning them slowly. Seems the slower you burn them the more reliable they are.

I guess I'm lucky. I have a silver '04 GTO that the dealer threw in the '05 hood, plus I got a better deal than any of the other dealers would give in my area. Perhaps because it is the 4th car I have bought from them. I/we also have a 2000 TA with several mods done to it.
I haven't decided what mods if any to do to the GTO yet.
