Well... drove my car around for an extended test. My conclusion... this clutch is completely fragged. :bang: Whenever I get on it even halfway aggressive, the rpms rise sharply before settling back down into the normal acceleration in time with the car. And, when I go into the upper gears (5th and 6th) if I give it any gas at all, the rpms start climbing... so its slipping REAL nasty like.
This is a RAM Powergrip HD... and the SOB should friggin hold. 900 series iron disk, high clamp load pressure plate, and a resurfaced billet steel flywheel. And the disk has now been eaten... the common denominator between this clutch and the McLeod I had before that also got eaten... same flywheel. Maybe that friggin flywheel is eating the clutch disks.
Well anyways... gonna have to replace. Now I'm thinking about going with a REAL series clutch. RAM VDS... completely rebuildable, insane clamp loads if you want it, iron disk, and RAM billet steel flywheel. Other shit should break from this clutch hitting so hard before it breaks itself. Will also go with a brand new slave and throw out bearing. Could also go SPEC 5... unsprung hub, iron disk, another serious race clutch.
I'm just sick of this crap... I hate spending the same damn money over and over again. So far, I've had to push back my plans for heads, and for nitrous, all to deal with this stupid ass clutch situation.

Hell yes! I'm just gonna put a stock clutch in there and go get me a C5... wouldn't be able to afford a new C6 Z06, unless the group buy is half off.

The wife says I can trade the Dakota.....I think that A4 is sounding better ALL the time Jason. That SUCKS!!! But "maybe" it's just the flywheel that came apart. It was throwing a ton of sparks at the track. You might still get lucky.

Yeah, because my McLeod I had before the RAM turned out so great... lasted exactly the same amount of time. ;)

If you've ripped through those two clutches then you should check the flywheel especially after what Mark saw. If it isn't that then toss the bucket for a new Z06'...like that would be oh so painful.

New z06, yeah, right. I can dream can't I? I'd be happy with a new goat or used c5/z06.

would the billet aluminum flywheel work for your plans? It'll sure rev quicker. And we know that baby's not going on any more long road trips.

billet aluminum sucks for drag racing... if I were a road racer or auto-xer, I'd do that. But the billet steel holds up to the hard launches better, and holds the inertia better to keep the revs up once you get them there.

I'm sure hoping its just the flywheel... that's a hell of a lot cheaper than getting a new clutch AND flywheel. Especially since I plan on stepping right up to the RAM VDS if that's the case. If that thing go tits up on me, I'll freakin' molotov cocktail my car.

Well IF you would have bought the clutch everyone told you to get instead of cheaping out ;) :poke:
Seriously you bad mouthed the hell out of McLeod and now we find out it was not the product as much as some thing else. You got some thing going on there man. You should NOT be killing them that fast....altough we have LOL.
Did anyone realize JimBobs car USED to be a M6? Only clutch that ever held was the MeLeod Twin ;)

I seriously don't know what happened to this one... we'll see once its out of the car just what happened. All I know is the last trip to the track, there was something wrong with it when shifting hard... just kept hanging. Was fine the first trip out at the beginning of June. Now I'm wondering after what Mark mentioned (sparks flying from under the car and all that) wasn't the flywheel getting munched. Or the flywheel stripping the clutch disk.
Again, we'll see once its out of the car... but you're right, there must be some other issue going on other than just the clutch, considering the RAM 900 series disk that's in there should hold just fine. I just don't see how a sintered iron disk can get destroyed that easily by a car with as low a power level as mine. Hell Brian used the RAM VDS clutch with a 900 series disk in his T/A and it worked like a champ on his 11.xx passes... The Powergrip HD uses the exact same disk.
RAM seems to think that the McLeod flywheel destroyed their clutch... differing friction material and all that. In that case, since I took the cheaper way out by just getting the McLeod one resurfaced instead of getting one of RAM's flywheels... then that could definitely be my bad. This time, it ain't gonna be the cheap way out. The RAM VDS is a $1000 clutch when all said and done...

I am not Buying that for a second ;) Just pimping to pimp a new Dollar IMHO.
There is no way this setup should have gave it up this fast. none.
The last car we had eat clutches this fast Was JimBobs car before we converter it to an A4. It is ALOT cheaper to putt in a ferw clutches here and there on a A4 then to yank $1,000 every other week like we were on the 6Spd.
On jims we found out later that we just needed a McLeod master and The "Drill" mod.
to bad it was all ready converted to an A4 for over year when this came out.
My Guess is some thing is not releasing the clutch fast enough or completely ;)
What are your thoughts or feelings on this Jason?
