Default what do ya'll think bout changing cams

currently i have a patriot 228/224 .591/.583 @ 112 cam and i was considering switching to the TSP 231/237 .598/.595 @ 112. is this switch worth it to gain a few ponies and also get a bit more lumpy idle? also owners how do you like the TSP cam? if not this cam then which cam should i look at for a lumpier idle but still driveability on the street. what rwhp number do you think would result with a bit bigger cam like the TSP or equivelent, ported tb, and pullies. this will be runninng through a ram powergrip hd and probablly a moser 12-bolt.

im also gonna probablly go in and change the oil pump as i didnt last time and also the timing chain. which chain should i use? i have the pump.

well it looks like the cam you currently have resembles a FI cam, the 231/237 112 is more of a nitrous cam, so if you plan on spraying the change would be an excellent choice, n/a you should see a small increae in power, and as far as the idle goes, they are both on a 112 lsa, but it might chop a litle more due to the degree seperation on the duration side, it wouldnt hurt, personally i would reccomend either picking up a g5x3, which you would see a nice hp increase, with nice driving mannors.with thic cam you should be in the 440ish range, and as far as a chain goes, i go with the jwiss.

Lots folks here touting the LS2 timing chain as a good replacement. As far as the cam swap, I'd guess it depends how much money and time you don't mind spending to pick up a few ponies up top and gain a little exta cackle.

BTW, at what rpm does your patriot package make it's max hp and torque? Judging by your numbers, it looks like a great combo.

the ls2 timing chain is a direct replacement? and is SDPC the best place to get it or somewhere else?

The 231/237 is being phased out in favor of the newer 233/239. It sounds like it would fit your goals nicely. Get it ground on a 112 for more lope.

The LS2 chain should be enough. I went ahead and got a rollmaster double when I swapped cams, but I do plan to rev mine pretty high in the future. (only 6500 shift points as of yet)
