Default Blown Buick vs 02 GT....Cobalt SS vs 02 GT

First Scenerio:

I just recently bought this 99 Buick as my daily driver. It has some punch to it, as it is blown. My friend with a stock GT M5 was making fun of me that his GT would "rape" it from a dig. So I took him up on his offer to see what this buick would do. I figured I would lose so we decided to run from a dig three times and a roll once.

First Race:

Dig 0-55

We both spin, I jump out first as I am driving an auto and the Buick makes very good low end. I pull a car at 40, he pulls back 1/2 by around 50. We shut down to traffic with us pulling about the same. He looked like he was inching, but ever so slowly.

Race two:

0-65

Same as above. Exactly

0-70

He missed 2nd gear. It was a raping.

So, it seems that I am beating him from a dig. I suppose it his driving skills, but I suspected that he would probably pull me from 70 on as the buick is a low 15, high 14 second car while the GT should be a low 14 second car.

Last race from a roll:

30-100.

He pulls three cars.

As we were driving home (after I dropped the buick off at home, we were in the GT) I notice a Red Cobolt SS. I am driving the GT, teaching him how to drive the stick better from a dig, since that is why I think the Buick beat him out of the whole (RWD > FWD).

I raced the Cobolt twice. Once from a dig, the other from a 30 MPH roll. From a dig, I took the Cobolt one car out of the whole. He stopped falling back after tha. It pretty much stayed even through 2nd gear with me pulling at the start (mid-range) with the Cobolt inching away. By 100 I had two cars on him.

From a roll, this was more interesting and says something good about the Cobolt. He pulled about a 1/2 a car from 30-50. I pull the car back and it stays even from 50-90 with me pulling a car at the start of third and him pulling it back at the end. After that, it seemed dead even till 110. Then we shut down. It was a damn good race

sounded like you had some fun.

I just read an article in motortrend's magazine. I think it's the July 2005 issue. Anyway, those little cobolt ss's are pretty quick. GM makes a tuner kit and book to show you hands on how to do the upgrades according to the article. Anyway, they detuned it and it ran mid 12s I think. They said the kit is good enough for low 11s according to GM. I will get the exact specs and info as soon as I get home from work today. A very interesting article.

Well, the Cobalt in the new C&D did a 14.4@100 MPH. They are the same cars so IDK, that seems off.

Wow, so a Cobalt SS is roughly as fast as an LT1...pretty impressive for a sporty economy car.
