Step 2 Complete
As long as I'm spending money I don't have.....I picked up a set of 6.0L heads today off eBay for the winter project. They are off an 05 truck with ~100 miles on them. Ellis didn't think I could go wrong on them, and I figure it will be easier to pick pistons later if we know what combustion chambers we are dealing with. The wife is going to kill me...

No kidding!
I don't think the wife will kill you - she might take the keys to the truck when you are done and claim it for her but not kill you
PS: Yes, you are now part of the compulsive mod group. Be proud! We need more people to pick on. WEG

So are you keeping the stock short block in there, or are you switching that up too? If you are switching, mind paying for my low compression 408 stroker while you're at it?

Sure buddy, just bring your car over & drop it off.
I plan to put forged pistons in, & maybe some I-beam rods if I can afford it, but no bore / stoke action. That's another $2k+ that I don't have. With luck it will be plenty this way. Right now I'm budget hunting. The heads were under $400 shipped!

With those heads you'll be running a 9:1 compression, right? That along with the forged pistons and you're good to go for big boost...
The stupid thing is, I actually will have enough money this fall to purchase a complete bigger cube stroker short block from one of the sponsors, some heads, and a nice direct port nitrous setup... figure I could make that happen for around 7k (plus the requisite safety equipment), should I want that. Must resist... must resist... need truck, need truck...

9 or 9.5:1 is the goal. Might need to mill the heads .01 or so to clean em up. But I only plan to run what this S/C can handle, which is 7psi, 8 at the most. I don't need no fancy paper weights. The problem is, it aint cheap to do it right. Cheaper than doing it twice, but still expensive! The one nice thing about boost is you don't need expensive heads.
So a truck vs a stroker & nitrous eh? What a hard choice to make! I'd take both.

That blower is limited to 7-8 psi ? You could do that with your stock heads and compression imo. If you're going to lower your compression to 9.0-9.5 then I'd think seriously about running 12-14 lbs of boost.

And you are right, I could just bolt it on & run with my current setup & go get kicked off the track. But how long would it last? I'm conservative when it comes to motors. I see them like batteries. IMO there is X amount of energy in a motor. The faster you pull it out, the sooner it dies. Lots of people will argue that point, but from what I've seen it seems to be fairly accurate.
Or I could just buy a stroker, a new truck and a trailer & move in with Jason.

I'm not looking to go nuts here & make the car sick fast. While I would like to be able to challenge for the top spot in the NW, I want to still be able drive the car.

Sounds like you've done your research.........Good man! Wish I would have! LOL, now I'm in the market for a new H/C setup! I'm gonna do the research before I buy this time.
