Default Stock tranny gone :(

I think 3rd gear on my stock 4L60E is toast. Just finished getting the STS kit in running 7psi. 1st gear is pretty strong (making about 5psi in 1st) and the 1-2 shift is nice and crisp. 2nd gear is just SICK but when it tries to shift to 3rd, it just hangs out for a moment and the shift is sloppy. When it finally does go to 3rd it feels like the car loses all its power and definately stops pulling *like it should*. Is 3rd gone, or should I look elsewhere for the problem. Dynoed 454rwhp not making peak boost until 5500 (which is a separate problem). N/A it dynoed 361hp/412tq. I didn't expect the tranny to last, just wanted to get different opinions on the problem. Also, the TCI tranny controller I have can control the 4L60E or the 4L80E. Since rebuilding the 60 or buying a built one is out of the question, who do you recommend for the 80? What converter would you go with? I currently have the SSF with about a 3600 stall. Thanks alot.

The 3-4 clutches are probably gone. They are a weak link in these transmissions. I would upgrade them to a 7 plate stack up. I usually use Borg-Warner Hi-Energy clutches.

Thanks for the advice, but you dont recommend just going stronger? I am planning for 700rwhp eventually anyway. Thanks for the advice.

Should I spend the money to upgrade the clutch packs or save that money for a TH400/4L80E? How much do the clutches usually run and what kind of labor charges am I looking at? I would be willing to attempt it myself if it isn't too complicated.

I wish i had the courage to work on a trans, my 3-4 clutches are f'ed up and i'm all stock. I hope there is a relatively cheap fix for this instead of getting a new trans.

Having the same problem my self. Local transmission shop quotes me $800 to put new clutch pack and refresh the tranny. i am just gonna wait till it is demolished and put in a new built one. No point in patchin the problem especially if u have higher HP plans

I have heard ALOT OF GOOD THINGS about CPT up here by me in Elkton, Maryland. Apparently he builds some nasty 4L60E's I'm gonna see what he can do with my tranny.
