Advies: All H/C and also cam only guys please come in have a question???
Hey all:
I have been reading alot of stories of races with H/C cars VS Cam only cars both with all the bolt ons. Most of the time it seems like the Cammed cars are faster in the race. Plus alot of dyno numbers I have been looking at on this board alone are showing some gains with heads but not alot. Maybe 10-15 rwhp.
Look at my sig I have a 2002 Z-28 with all the bolt on's with a cam only 224/224 580 lift at 114 lsa as of now. I am looking to get heads right now but I dont want to go back wards or just gain very little.
I just wanted some input and hopefully some of you also had my type set-up then went to heads.
Looking for all advise.
Also note: I have read alot that our stock heads flow very well and not to touch them untill you get over 500 HP.

It realy depends on the specs on the cam only and the H/C setups. If you look at a cam only car with a T-rex or G5X3, it might put out more power or similar power as a small 224 cam on stage II heads. Then you have to look at the transmission - A4 or M6? If you are looking at a H/C A4 car it might seem like a dog to a M6 with a big cam and no heads.
There are just too many variables to compare setups over the internet. In general, I'd say that a set of stage II/III heads can't be a bad thing to put on any car that is looking for more HP/TQ.

i learned the hard way... i good cam needs GOOD heads and intake. A 221 cam is fine with stage one and can easily make good power. I picked a big cam, weak heads, and ls6 intake. When i switch to better heads and FAST intake i expect to make 450rwhp. Another 20-30 on top of what i already have. you just have to match parts.
