Well a conversion is just that and not a Z06. Prolly just trim only. They also made 4 door and wagon Vettes for show. Ive seen a Vette body on a 4x4 truck chassis but who even wanted those?

Maybe they can retrofit the LS6 engine in a coupe or convertible, then alter the appearance, suspension, wheels, and other optioins, however the VIN will not reflect it as being a factory Z06. Not that it really matters to performance and/or amenity enthusiasts, but for collector and historical purposes, only factory Z06's count.
Just my 2 cents.

Maybe I'm missing something here, maybe I'm taking this the wrong way. But there seems to be some misinformation here. It is correct that GM did not have any production Z06's with auto's and convertibles. But there are a few of both running around that are Z06's.
I could take mine and swap the hard top for a convertible top and hardware from what I have heard it is relatively easy. There is a company that does this and actually can put a targa top on the hardtop which I would be more interested in but that is not a DIY job and is like 7k.
There are guys that have dedicated Z06 drag cars that have put auto's in them, I think a guy even has a Yank 400 in one but don't quote me on that.
These cars all have Z06 VIN and to say they are not Z06's is like saying mine isn't because I have aftermarket engine parts and wheels.
On the flip side there are people that through Z06 badges and brake ducts on coupes just like there are people that throw SS badges on Z28's.
