Default Non-LS1 issue in Charlotte

Okay guys here's my situation. I'm buying a house over by Lake Wylie--closing in September. I've never owned a house before--2 things that I'm questioning and need advice on. 1, I want to buy a dog. It's a quiet, safe, family type neighborhood. I really would love a Rot but don't want to catch any slack from the neighbors. I don't want one that's going to be alot of trouble nor one that barks alot. But one that's good for around the house and security. Any suggestions.

Also, here we go. My lawn. I don't know how to take care of a lawn. (I'm originally grom NY and I've always rented apartments). It's a nice size fenced off back yard. I went to sears to look for a mower. Can you guys recommend a good mower to buy. And why would you suggest it?

Thanks for your help!

how big is pretty big
if you need a riding mower save up and buy a commercial grade one like the pros use
it will last forever and you will be happier in the long run
most power equipment at sears is a POS IMHO
