Default LS1 to LS6 cam swap RPM seem different

I had my 99 Z28 LS1 cam swapped for an LS6 cam and springs now the car seems to be running slightly higher RPM's at normal driving speeds.I dont remember what the rpm's were running at before but now with 3rd or 4th gear it seems like I may be turning maybe 2 or 300 rpms more than before at the same speed. Ive not had it tuned yet but it doesnt seem like that would cause that but I dont know- any ideas??

I did the same swap but also added longer 7.425<?> pr's. I had my fuel trim enriched slightly to compsensate for this. Not sure if thats your issue, I never noticed a rpm difference on mine though.

Did you try the internal engine forum? They tend to discuss cams a lot more. And are you sure its not your imagination? People have felt similar things just because they changed their exhaust and the sound was different.

That could be all it is, in my head, the sound is a little different so I had thought about that. No I didnt change the push rod length- do many people upgrade the harmonic balancer after cam swap and bore?

Everybody has fallen victim to the "what else changed?" bug now and then.

Your rpm vs speed is completely dependent on your transmission and rear end gear ratios. Changing anything inside (or outside for that matter) the engine won't change those ratios.

How's that cam working out?

In order to retain proper valvetrain geometry you need to use longer pushrods than stock. The LS6 cam has a smaller base circle than the LS1 cam. The harmonic balancer is not necessary, but it would be the perfect time to replace it when doing a cam swap.

Sounds really smooth and feels like there may be more power in upper RPM range than before, but Ive not ran the car or had it dyno'd yet

Absolutely impossible. It IS in your head. The only way to do that is a gear change, tire size change or a slipping clutch or tranny.

Okay I alright with the idea its in my head, not worried anymore but just for kicks are any of you guys with stock cams and gears turning something other than 2k rpm's at 45 mph in 4th gear on level ground?
