Default Gas gage is tripping, maybe my fuel pump??

Okay frist of all i put ten bucks yesterday and got 3/4 tank. (i had close to a 1/4 tank)

I went to work a 30 mile turn around, later that night went the store.
I turned the car on it read a 1/4 tank wtf. So I put 15 bucks it went to a full tank. From a 1/4 tank it went to full with 15 bucks and the gas 2.39. Somthings defently wrong. Then i get home again, then leave 30 mins later to the blockbuster and my gauge reads 3/4's of tank.

It also responds better with more gas.

Could it be my fuelpump, cloged fuel filter, dirt, crap????

Sounds like the sending unit has a bad spot or two on it.

It works off resistance. Usually 90 ohm when full and as you burn fuel it drops off.

I am having to order a new sending unit for my 1996 Caprice tank that I shoe horned into a 69 Camaro as I write this.

It is doing much like yours but it will also just start bouncing around. That is when it gets an open circuit due to a bad spot on the sending unit.
