To make the carbon waxes like Turtle Wax and Zymol Carbon??? work better, it would be a good starting point not to have white compound stuck in all the stone chips.

I haven't found any way to get it out.

I was going to try pressure washing, but I was in a hurry and Turtle Waxed the car.

I was also thinking that a phonograph record carbon fibre cleaning brush would definitely work - but I can't find mine... Even the tiniest micro-stone chip spec would be a large feature relative to the diameter of those carbon fibre bristles. Probably use it with water or silicone/wax remover.

Any other thoughts???

Oh, a clay bar does absolutely nothing.

I know one way that would remove every single atom of compound. That would be ultrasonic cleaning the hood. (haha) Hey, maybe that Tide or Spic-n-Span or whoever's ultrasonic stain removal system might work. (I know someone's wife has to have one of those on this forum!)

I would think that a mild prep solvent like Shine On would cut it...have you tried rubbing alcohol? I think that a chemical approach would be much safer than a physical/manual approach (i.e. pressure wash, brush, etc.)...just my .02

scrape it out with a toothpick man. just rub the toothpick along the edge of the chip.

These "chips" are more like "specs" with maybe 10 per square inch of hood surface.

Then there are the "microscopic" ones that are maybe 100 per square inch - these make the paint look like a poly, but they are actually chips that turn white when compound is driven into them.

Don't forget, compound gets like cement and is difficult to remove even from a windshield. What is required where it is stuck in a ragged hole is much worse.

As far as a chemical approach, even if you can completely soften it (soaking with water might actually do this... maybe lay wet cloth on surface for 30 min???), you still have to get it out of the hole. That basically puts you back to some physical method that almost has to be followed up with some sort of irrigation.

HaHa, my preferred tool to wash out stone chip craters prior to touching up!

I wish I had tried pressure washing - this would had to have worked...
