Default gut cat

Is it safe to gut the cat?? I dont really have the tools or time to saw of the cat and weld a new pipe on so i was just wondering if I could just scrape all the honeycombs out??

are there and cons to doing so?

You will set off an SES light, fail emmissions, why do you want to do it anyway?

an ses light is not a problem get o2 sims or get someone to delete the code. passing emissions is not a problem unless you live in cali. look up your states laws on emissions first. and gutting them will make your car sound a lot better. its easy to do just get a long screw driver and a hammer

I say just take it to a friendly exhaust shop and have them replace the cats with straight pipe.

An SES light is a problem in some states, mine in particular. You will fail emmission with an SES light, no if's, and's, or buts. Sorry pal, Cali. is not the only emissions strict state. Just to delete the code with custom tuning, several hundred bucks there. Wait for other mods if you plan to delete them. And IMHO, it will make your car sound like ***.

Seems like now would be a perfect time to upgrade to some LT's and catted y.

Do LT1's have dual cats? I wonder what would happen if you gutted just one and not the other?

i only have one cat.....and i dont have the money right now for any upgrades thats why i just wanted to gut it. I have gone to the same place for my cat problem 3 times and they have just screwed up so i am taking it into my own hands and get rid of the cat.....gutting it will be temp. till I have a lift to where i can saw the cat off and weld pipe into its place (straight pipe)

umm how are u going to gut this cat? u have to remove it to gut it.. unless your cat is the last item in your exhaust? since ur removing it.. dont gut it and put it back on.. get straight pipe and some clamps.
