98 Alternator doesn't seem to work very well

Default 98 Alternator doesn't seem to work very well

The big terminal is going to the battery via 4 gauge, its a 98 car so the alternator harness connector has 1 wire coming out of it which goes to switched 12v.

Isn't that the right way to hook it up?

No.

It needs a switched 12 volt WITh a 470 ohm 1/2 watt resistor inline. Radio Shack has them.
