Exclamation Low Coolant!! Low Temp???

I have a question and I hope you guys can help me. My low coolant light came on but my car still runs in the 170-180 degrees. I also check the coolant and the radiator is topped of. What can be causing this light to come on? Is it even a low coolant light it is on the top left, red, looks like a square with little waves on top and an arrow pointing down.

Thanks
Bro

A bad switch could cause a false light.

Sounds like a bad sensor, it's on the passenger side near the top of the radiator...about $30?? at the dealer. Think they did away with them in '00, my car doesn't have one - seen posts where guys just unplugged theirs, light goes off and just check the fluid once in a while.

It means that you have really wavy hair, and you need to do something to make it lay down.

Sorry - it's just that all those damn cryptic signals on the dash start to look alike. Can't they just ahve a small dot-matrix screen (like the odomoeter) that has messages scroll across it in plain English? Jeez, why do I have to think of EVERYTHING!!

I want a button I can push in on the dash that'll display current DTC codes when the SES light illuminates.

My Avalanche has that. They call it the "message center."

I think the C5 Vette w/ the Driver Information Center can do that.

Other than trying the spare key, or cleaning the one you're using, don't know. You didn't mention any starting problems...did it just come on? I'd do a search/start another thread, someone here will know the answer.

Hi

I had the same problem. I rebooted the computer (disconnect and then reconnect the battery) and it whent away. Please try this first before chassing after sensors or other stuff. As a rule of thumb, this procedure should be done first, whenever you get an error code, especially if it is intermitant.

Thanks JA

Just unplug it. (the sensor). They always go out and as long as you check your coolant light once in awhile there really is no need for it because once that light was to go on you'd be overheating anyway. Kind of a dummy light.
