Default Raced a Modded Maxima Today

A kid I know drives a 2000 Maxima with intake, exhaust, short throw, stage 2 clutch, and a aftermarket flywheel. His friend with a GTP has been talking so we decided we would do a run so the GTP could see what the Camaro had. When the Maxima and the GTP raced the GTP had about 1 car length on him on a ruff 1/4.

Anyway, he was being cocky so I decided I was going to race him with my friend with me, and launch from an idle. I had about an extra 225 pounds, plus I spun like crazy taking off. He got me pretty good off the start considering it was from an idle but once I hit 60 and shifted from 2nd to drive, I walked him. At the end of the 1/4 I had 4 1/2 - 5 car lengths on him and was at about 130. I think they marked the quarter a bit longer because I know my car doesn't hit 130 in a quarter espically with an extra 225 pounds on. I shut it down then and we watched the race via his little thing, he has something like a g-tech and his top speed was 106 and it said he ran a 15.52 so who knows what I would have had on him if we kept going. And I'm not sure on the accuracy. But we were coming into a curve at the end so I had to brake quickly, then my abs inop light popped on about 10 minutes later when we were driving back into town. Hopefully it goes off when I start my car again.

Everyone was saying that an extra 200+ pounds didn't mean **** but that's a lot of weight if you ask Me. I think I should walk the GTP but I'm gonna practice launching, and by the way when launching from a power break it breaks out at about 1800 RPMs but hooks up decent. I think the race will take place in about another week, the guy with the GTP took off before we raced, which doesn't make sense because he wanted to see it. But luckily he did or he might not wanna go .

Hold on foot on the break, gas just enough to get to 1kish rpm. Release break mash gas. Watch the GTP pick your debris out of his teeth.

Yeah, I don't know why the kid likes Maximas so much. He has money to buy a nicer car but he's just a Maxima loyalist. I give him a little respect for having the nuts to race me although he wouldn't if I wouldn't have had a friend with Me and launched from an idle. The first go-round I was powerbreaking and he didn't wanna go. He is a pretty cool kid though, at least he puts some money into his car, even if it is a Maxima, I told him to sell it and buy like a 98-02 Z28 lol.

It depends of the year, when I had my S10 S/C I got smoked by a 2004 maxima he ran 14.2...which IMO is pretty decent for a 4 doors AT sedan.

I'd love an 05 with the manumatic and their better V6, but not for 35k.

Agree with Hugger and Crab, nice daily driver...but I think I might opt for the 260HP Altima if forced to chose.

They're definitely a nice car, but that's not a car you modify.

I agree Altimas are very fun to drive. They feel just like a go-cart. i drove my bro's 2.5 Altima a couple times and had nothing but good things to say.

But yeah, they have about as much mod value as a vvt-i camry.

Yeah it's a nice car, but it's not much competition for my Z unless you put some serious money into it... which doesn't make too much sense to me.

Well, Maximas are pretty heavy, but new type R altima that has 260hp and weighs about 3100-3200 is not a joke. Some nitrous and a few bolt ons could get this car into 12s.
