hey All:

Need help in a big way. Nut is rusted SOLID on the tip of the strut that holds down the strut mount. Have compressed spring NUMEROUS times in NUMEROUS places- the nut twirls with the strut threads. :bang: Anyone know ANYTHING I can do to get this thing off? :( Tried almost every type of solvent: Aircraft paint remover, removal catalyst, even the old rust solvent in the tin can when Autozone used to be chiefs! :eek2: Is there ANY way I can save at elast teh strut mount? At most, the strut? PLEASE help me!!

try using PB Blaster from Advance or Autozone. Let it set for about 30 mins and hit it with an Impact on a low air setting. If it doesnt come loose, turn the air up a bit.

There is a tool especialy used for this called the nut splitter :judge: . It pretty much cuts the nut in two pieces so you wont fight it and it takes a whole 5 seconds to accomplish.

I had the same problem on both of my struts.
I cut off as much of the stud / nut as possible with a dremel and the used a drill to finish the job.

Sorry, I just noticed you want to keep the strut as you can tell I had to replace mine.
