Default Where do I get a good Torque Wrench?

Didn't know where else to post this so figured here

Where can I get a good multipurpose torque wrench? One that I can use on all bolts and maybe even wheel lugs. Everything i've done up to now i've just been guessing but I don't know how tight I am doing stuff, in fact the other day I broke a wheel stud because of this. I tried to buy a torque wrench from o'riley one time but I couldn't even figure it out. Where can I get a torque wrench and how do you get it to fit different bolts? In essence, how do you get it to work. Thanks guys.

So do they just come in one size then? Or how do you get them to adapt to different size bolts?

As far as I know they come in various sizes, just like regular socket wrenches. If all else fails you can just get size adapters... you shouldn't have any problems.

So then they sell them in a set with a main piece and size adapters? Or do you have to buy a new wrench for every size you need?

They are just like a regular ratchet except you can apply a specific torque value. The only size difference is the drive size as in 1/4" drive, 3/8" drive and 1/2" drive. Just like a regular ratchet.

Buy a Craftsman one from Sears and you get the Lifetime Warranty.
Unless you buy the old versions of them, (the ones with the steel rod that moves to show the value), it's not a lifetime warranty. The ones that you select a value on the handle and then it clicks when you hit it only has a 1 year warranty.

You generally only need two:
One that measures foot pounds, and one that measures inch pounds.
They use your sockets, so the size of the bolt head is not an issue.

Since tork wrenches are delicate meaasuring devices they are generally not covered by good warranties - Craftsman included.

Home depot sells a nice Husky torque wrench (actually two, 3/8 and 1/2) that is covered by a Lifetime Warranty. The 1/2 is a $100 and the 3/8 is $70. The 1/2 is HUGE though. If I had the extra 70 laying around, I'd probably buy the 3/8.

For the most part they honor this, but I have been denied several times within the last year and one of the times was on my torque wrench that I bought 10 years ago when there was no limit on the warranty. Needless to say, it is now only 90 days from date of purchase ... this was what I was told when I told them that I would go elsewhere and buy a REAL torque wrench from a REAL tool manufacturer.

Lifetime waranty applies to wrenches, ratchets, and sockets. I have never been under the assumption that a torque wrench was covered under the lifetime waranty...come on guys, how would they make money if everything in the store had the lifetime waranty, such as an impact wrench...its a tool...i use my hand...its a hand tool ....

I've used snapon, craftsman, and chinese wrenches.

The cheapo chinese wrenches are great when you don't give a damn about your tools, you can drop them an not give a ****.

The craftsmans only redeeming value is that you can replace it on a sunday afternoon.

The snapon I have is god. Of course, it was $250, but I have total confidence in it, it never shifts its setting, and is built like a tank.

I will never again build an engine with a cheap torque wrench.

Go to your local Sears or OSH (Orchard Supply Hardware), and pick up a Craftsman.
As mentioned above, it comes with a lifetime warranty. Oh, and don't forget to join the Craftman Club! (Discounts and such).
