Okay, as in my previous thread, i installed a new alternator, mounted and hooked it up...but i noticed there was a "plug" on it..but i didnt see a plug to fit it hanging around the alternator area...do i need this plug? I hooked up the wire that bolts into the alt. but i didnt see the plug shapped.....plug ;p
anyways, the cars dead parked on a damn exit ramp.
can anyone tell me if this plug is around there? I am gonna go buy a new battery (need one anyways, car has 90k with the stock battery lol).
Thanks guys. I'm never doing my own work again....ever
YES, you should have that plug hanging somewhere on your car.. That plug is for the pcm to your alternator... If it's not plug in, your car is probably not going to start.

okay update. i had to have the car towed home, because i cannot find that plug ANYWHERE in the engine bay. i looked, and looked. i looked for 45 minutes to find it, and it's NOT THERE.
I give up. i'll take the damn car to a dealer. no more do it yourself work for me.
bleh.

if anyone wants to help me out, i need a pic pointing at the top of your alternator. where the lil plug guy runs from in the car, to the alternator.
mine seems to be mia. and i cannot find it. the only thing i can think of was it was ripped off when taking out the old alt..
i'm at a major loss and my car is deadlined because of this.
any help is better than no help!
thanks guys.

Like said above, you need to find out where that wire went.

This is the best I could get.The wire for the top of the altenator is in the harness that the head coolant plug is in.

thank you :D
I thought it might come from there. so my fears are correct, it was rippedo ff.
damn it to hell.....i guess it's time to tow it to a dealer

well, i have thought about it. and i don't want to tow it anywhere.
Can anyone link me to a part # directory? Where it gives a dealer type breakdown for parts in the car.
Finding the wire will be a pain in the ass, but i'd rather do it myself than have a dealer do it.
Thanks guys

Okay, i found the problem with my alternator not working, and draining my battery.
The plug that goes from the alt. to the ECU (that connections through the plug that plugs (ironicly enough) into the block to i guess, moniter temp.
I need that wire, that whole wire preferably, as i'd rather not splice it and have it slip or short later. a splice would work for a short time until i get the entire plug again.
So, my question is this. What is this GM part number? Or, which i doubt, does anyone elese sell this wire.
Thanks guys. God i hope i can find this. i'm so close to getting the car up and running again, after i get a new battery.
Oh one more question, when i connected the alt. back up, ran the belt and everything, it started smoking. just a little bit, then quit after 2 minutes.
I let the shit cool for like, 45 minutes, restarted the car, then it didn't smoke after that...just my battery died, and the car won't crank. (I know that the battery dosent have enough juice to turn the crank. so i'm going to go ahead and replace the batt.)
Sorry for the long post!
Here's to driveway mechanics, and the internet! :drive:

I broke mine a couple of years ago.Thats why there's a purple wire hanging there.Mine broke right at the conector where it plugs into the altenator.I went to the dealership and bought the altenator wire plug,it came with about 6" of wire sticking out.It had three wires but you only use one.I extended the wire with wire I had laying around. Now I can drop the altenator and itll lay on the ground before the wire will even start to stretch.
Thing is,did you find the plug end?If not its probably still in the old altenator.
Just break apart the wire cover in that harness coming down and you should be able to find the wire.I dont remember what color it is,but it has to be in there.

yeah it's hanging there. all alone.
and no, i don't have the plug. i didn't even think to look at that when i sent it off with the autozone goon.
damn it! I hate ignorance. (ignorance, i define as lack of knowledge. stupidity is not using said knowledge).

I can look it up when I get home if no one gets to it before then.

Yeh,hopefully your dealer will have the plug.I think it was only a few bucks.Definatly fix this yourself. No need to get ripped by the dealers.I cant remember the exact name of the plug, but tell them its for the top of the altenator.

jay: hell yeah dude. thanks!
And white: Yeah. i see no reason to pay some dealer an hour's worth of labor, that a n00b mechanic (me) can do in like, 15-30 minutes. and that's me not knowing jack about shit about mechanics.
Hell, this alt. install is the first actual wrench i've ever turned on this car!
aside from the lid and stuff, but a monkey could do that.

You should be able to get the harness from any GM dealer. If not, try a bone-yard local or on line.

I don't think GM sells the whole wire from ECU to alternator, but I do know that Painless wiring sells the pigtail on the alternator side. Don't ask me how I know.

I'm showing ACDelco part number PT1136
http://198.208.187.182/servlet/com.entigo.acdelcocatalog.servlet.ProcessImageServ let?languagecd=EN&countrycd=US&user=InternetUser&mfgname=&prodlinecd=&acpartnbr=PT1136
The GM part number it shows is 15306009. When you look that number up on GMpartsdirect it shows it as a headlight connector for GM's SUV's. It's possible the connector is used for that too but it doesn't show it as a Generator connector.
Either way if you give the ACDelco part number you shouldn't have a problem.

Mimic,
I gave you a part number in the other thread. As far as splicing it's not a big deal. As long as you make a good crimp it will out last the car. No biggie.
