What kind of paint are you using. You really get what you pay for. Are you using flat black, or satin or semi gloss? It's easiest with flat black, and pretty hard with semi gloss.

Invest in an hvlp and compressor. Or just an hvlp and borrow a commpressor. Advance Auto has a sweet one for the price (less than 100). If you can't buy one right now, at least try to borrow one. It turns my stomach when i think of anyone spray painting anything on the exterior of a car. You can probably get it painted at a shop for less than a 100 too. I know none of this probably helped, but with an hvlp in your possesion you can paint anything on your vehicle with confidence (fuel rail covers, STB's, hoods, spoilers, anything) and be proud of the results.
