Default Only 1/2 a car length ?!?!?!? (warning:long story)

I drive a ls1 non-ram air t/a with lid, ls6 intake, hooker lt, magnaflow catback 285/40/17 BFG Comp T/A's in the back vs. a stock ls1 ws6, w/stock tires. I should mention my rear tires are bald and couldnt hook under 30mph. "Loss"- from a stop I brake-torqued to about 2k and just got sideways lost by about 1 1/2 car lenghts. But won twice from +30mph and once from a stop, only brake-torqued to 1.2k. It was my first time running my t/a so I kept eyes forward on the road and my radar detector, but was told i won by about 1/2 - 1 car length those times. Is this normal or should I expect better results from tires that would grip?

If it's your first time running the car you just need to practice your launch. I remember the first time I ran mine, it was against a neon. The neon got me out of the hole pretty bad cause I just spun. As soon as I hooked I flew by him and beat him, but not as bad as I would have if I had a good launch. On the street it's all about the launch, so get some tires that aren't bald, practice, and then race him again. I'll bet the outcome will be a lot better for you than this time was.

Yeah I hope the tires were the culprit

Tires would help, but some cars are just stronger than others. There are cases where a stock car will be faster and make more power than one with mods, just something to think about.....

true, and the other guy may have been an experienced driver and had decent tires
