I like everything Pioneer. Well, I can say definitly on HU's. Can't go wrong with Either Pioneer or Alpine and Some Kenwoods. I'd take a Pioneer, or ALpine 1st before I's own another Kewwood. For the same $$$ Pioneer get's you the Most for your Money.

Alpine has color changing head units. I know the CDA-9835 will change to match, and I'm pretty sure the current 9855 will do it as well. The 9831 was also one that had about 10 options on it I believe. The 9835 had some crazy 100 different colors or something.

When I bought my TA it had a Clarion deck in it that would color change as well. I ended up going with the in dash Alpine DVD unit, so color wasn't something I was particularly worried about.

I was on the fence between Pioneer and Alpine when I last bought a HU also. I have a Pioneer already and like it. But the Alpine 9835 I like much much better. The display is so crisp and clear and the sound setting are endless. Some adjustments are much easier on the Pioneer. What I have found though is I am always adjusting the Pioneer, after the initial adjustments on the Alpine, I have always been pleased with the sound and not needed to adjust.

Regardless, you can't go wrong with either one!

I put a Eclipse head unit in my Firehawk because it is red.Although I have the pioneer In my 98 T/A.Its a real nice deck.My only complaint is the lack of functions you can perform on the deck(skip tracks, fast forward)You have to use the remote.

To get to the advanced settings on the newer Alpines, you have to hold down 'menu' for a few seconds.

Wildbill I just bought the exact HU you are looking at from Walmart for $254.??.Awesome deck! If you have any questions, feel free to ask me.

Also, it is extremely difficult to tune initially. This particular model took me almost a full week, and I've only owned Pioneer decks, but after I figured out which settings sounded best for my system, I haven't touched it since.
