Default Have To Buy A New Engine And Have 4,000 What Should I Get?

My engine is toast..I guess I have a spun rod barring or w/e is what they are telling me and th knocking is so loud it sounds like its going to blow up. I will need a new engine and dont want to spend over 4,000 for the whole set up plus whatever to get it dropped in. Any suggestions? I want at least 450 to the wheels let me know..Also what could I get for mine?

Thanks

I would personally get a 402 or a 408. I think the shortblock would be around 3500 then you would need heads, then a cam setup. Then nitrous of course. Then a fuel system. Then a tranny. Then a rear end. Then take off the nitrous and pull out the pistons to replace with low compression pistons and a turbo. Then ... (sorry I get off track sometimes!)

450 to the wheels is about a 545 or so at the crank motor. This will be hard with all new parts, but you could do it with careful shopping for used quality parts.

If you were planning to buy new, then you'll need to come off some more cash.

4K sounds like alot, but it just doesn't go as far as it used to.

Hell a good set of alum. heads will be $1300.00 to $1600.00. Then the list goes from there.

I have over $1300.00 just in machine work in my block.

What about over 400 to the wheels? With around 400 to 430 to the wheels I shouldnt have to do much to anything else but maybe harden up the rear end right? I dont mind getting stuff used that does not make a difference if its used. But like I said 4,000 is my limit.

I know nothing about engine mechanics... The engine he has is completely junk!? There must be a fix and it would be cheaper than buying new i would think. How does this happen to these engines?

I doubt that it is all junk. if you have a knock, spun bearing. your cam, heads, and everything is still ok. You could either rebuild the shortblock (shortblock is from the heads down). Or just find another shortblock somewhere. theres always stuff for sale on here. If you dont know much about it, better off finding a replacement. Dont you know anyone near you mechanically inclined to help you?

I do... he is a genious Carter Edwards I live in Florida and he is pretty well known.. he thinks I should go with another 350 forged bottom and and internals with a big cam and he said I should be at around 400 to the wheels. Then may a little nitrous or whatever I wanna do the engine would be able to take. I am going to try and get a couple hundred for my whole engine to cover some of the cost of the new setup which is 4800 installed with him
